April 9, 2016 – Pacquiao-Bradley III: ~400K PPV buys
May 7, 2016 – Alvarez-Khan: ~450K-600K PPV buys
July 23, 2016 – Crawford-Postol: 50K-60K PPV buys
September 17, 2016 – Alvarez-Smith: >~300K PPV buys
November 5, 2016 – Pacquiao-Vargas: ~300K PPV buys
November 19, 2016 – Ward-Kovalev – 160,000 PPV buys

Hopefully this means we get Kovalev/Ward II on standard HBO. They must have taken a bath on that PPV considering they had to pay out $7m in guaranteed purses for the main event, plus whatever other costs there were in putting the card on. I just hope Ward doesn't price himself out of the rematch now that it's obvious the fight isn't as huge a moneymaker as they thought.

Canelo and Pacquiao (and Mayweather if he unretires) are the only guys who can still draw on PPV. If Floyd stays retired, GGG/Canelo and MAYBE something like Pac/Thurman or Pac/Crawford are the only fights for 2017 that could do a big buyrate.

Time to accept the PPV model is dead, huge money paydays are a thing of the past and the model of just whacking stuff on PPV has canabalised it's entire audience.

Excuse me, I can not agree with you. Can you imagine Joshua vs Fury ? It would be over a million PPV.

let's not forget Golovkin-Brook did over 500k here in the UK. I think the big fights can be made, and those are the fights that will draw. This year was supposed to be GGG/Canelo, easily over 1m buys. Khan/Brook in the UK easily does over 1m buys in the UK.. Wilder/AJ + or Wilder/Fury just about breaks the million mark. GGG/Ward would do 500k + IMO.

Although not talked about much, Box Office UK is ahead of HBO and Showtime ppv

If Tyson Fury is back, you can expect at least three fights would make more than 1 million.

These are awul numbers compared to McGregor ppv numbers. Time for real 50-50 fights where people want the win by knockout and not this boring Floyd and ward snozzze fests

Doubtful the fighters would cut their pay. I don't think Jay z cares about making money. If he did. Occasionally showing his face would be a start.

The real reason is that boxing PPVs in North America are overpriced.
Paying $70 for Kovalev and Ward is too much even for hardcore boxing fans.

I bought it, but it's my last one. I spend $60 a month on the UFC and they offer a much better product.

Given how big Conor McGregor has been drawing this year (it's been reported that McGregor/Diaz II did in the region of 1.6 million PPV buys) I don't think we can say that PPV is dead. If you have something that people want to watch they will pay for it in large numbers. I think the truth is that boxing didn't have fights that enough people were willing to pay for.

Eddie Hearn was interviewed by Fight-Hype at the Jack-DeGale press conference and he conceded that Golovkin-Brook only did 400K+ not the 500K+ that was previously reported. He said the following:

So at least we know that if Matchroom promote a PPV containing a stacked fight card, we can bank on the main event being a mismatch!

It’s also interesting to see the Golovkin-Brook UK PPV buy-rate revised from 500K to 400K.

Khan/Brook would do nearer to 500k than 1 million imo. Probably around 600-700k. Froch/Groves 2 was MASSIVE but 'only' did 900k. I'm not sure Khan/Brook sells out Wembley like Froch/Groves 2 did, never mind hit 1 million PPV buys.

Probably the 2 most interesting match ups got the lowest buys, meanwhile people will shell out to watch Pacquiao and Alvarez fight anyone.

The 50-50 fights did the worst numbers. American people presumably just want to watch Floyd, Canelo and Pacquiao beat nobodies
