We all have occasions when we just can't be bothered, and normal challenges simply can't be faced.
Tony Sibson was a boxer who had periods of deep insecurity, interspersed with supreme confidence. Tony's 'bad day at the office' occurred during a period of 'insecurity' when he was due to step up in weight to challenge Dennis Andries for the world light heavyweight title. Already on edge he travelled down to London from Leicester for the weigh-in ( at Stringfellows I think). The late Ernie Fossey, believing he was being shrewd, but not understanding the Sibson personality, slipped a heavy piece of lead into Ton'y's pocket as he was about to step on the scales. This brought him up to nearer the light heavy limit. Fossey thought this would discourage the Andries camp, making them believe that the big punching middleweight, would be monstrous at the higher weight. For Sibson it sent a message that his London camp members were less than optimistic about his chances and needed to produce a 'con' trick to gain an advantage. The fight was lost there and then.
Tony had some early success, but was one paced and then it went downhill rapidly, with him stumbling to his knees several times from light blows until the ref stepped in.

Just remember folks, boxers are like everybody else, sometimes they just can't perform on the night. Mickey Duff once told Henry Wharton that the most difficult thing for a boxer to do during a fight is to 'up the pace' if they started slow. This might explain why Kovalev lost his title during the last half of his fight with Ward.

Kovalev "lost" because of poor scoring by three poor judges no other reason.

why not just get rid of the judges if its that simple and just rely on punch stats to score a fight ? so I take it you have had your mind changed on the result of a fight based on punch stats ?

Unfortunately all of this fallout and so called opinion is all premeditated ,people where so desperate for kovalev to win that they can't take it because of there dislike for ward !!,

That's utter bullshit. I like Ward, have nothing against him whatsoever.

I don't doubt that Ian. At the same time, Ward does get a lot of flak on here, so you can see where Saad is coming from.

No. But it is one piece of evidence to use in support of an argument - in my case, it's the argument that Kovalev won the fight. Other factors in my judgement were aggression, effective aggression and ring generalship.

...And if you're going on round-by-round punch stats then it's a dead even 6-6 (but of course you also need to factor in the knockdown).

...So, the point is he didn't just 'follow Ward around in a circle', he outlanded Ward in 6 rounds. Somewhat undermines your analysis.

I gave it to Ward narrowly. The judges gave it to Ward narrowly. Boxing News gave it to Ward narrowly. Obviously none of us know how to score a fight.

It was a close fight, certainly no robbery.

They are not facts. Whether a punch landed, or is a power punch has an element of subjectivity.

In 8 of the rounds, the difference in punches landed, was 3 punches or fewer.

The punch stats prove nothing in this fight, other than showing it was close.
