A young writer over at BBN, Ronnie McCluskey, has written an article on the above. At first glance, it sounds a crazy proposition.

But is it really? Neither seem to be going anywhere after all...

Makes sense from a fan's view point Ian, but the promoters are going to have to sort out a lot of "issues" first.

I've always hoped they would make this fight. Eastman would give Joe an excellent fight.

Calzaghe is fast running out of options...

In would be a good domestic clash I suppose but my question is always: Where would Eastman succeed where Charles Brewer failed? He doesn't do anything better than the American.

Question is how prepared can J-C get following his long-layoff, injury and personal problems and if he cannot reach the heights of the Brewer fight (in which he still couldn't drop a guy who's no debutante when it comes to hitting the deck) then Eastman could well suprise him.

good shout, Pemberton deserves a shot, but i'd rather not see it against Calzaghe. That said...rather him than Veit. He's excting (IMO, Pemberton-Sheika 2 could be the best fight of the year so far!) so for as long as it lasts it could be a decent fight while Calzaghe bides time.

I give Eastman precisely no chance against Calzaghe. He poses too much, doesn't hit hard enough to trouble him, and doesn't have the skills to outpoint Calzaghe. Eastman is a very good middleweight, and has talent, but he's not so good as to go up and beat Calzaghe at his natural weight.

anyone heard these rumours about a light-heavy match with woods? sounds to me like that'd be a better proposition for j-cal than facing howard. it could set him up to crash the johnson/jones/tarver triumverate.

if it's true that warren can get tarver over here for $2.5m, tho, as has been reported he should snatch the floridian's hands off. a good fight against the magic man (even a losing effort) would leave him right in the mix. knocking off eastman or woods won;t help his profile stateside any.

Calzaghe is at his peak, and the injury (if there ever was one) isn't serious. Even if a little bit of inactivity does hamper him he couldn't ask for a more conventional style to sharpen up on than Eastmans.

Eastman as been quiet lately I think that he is just sitting on his ranking hoping for a shot but I don't think its work like that. Things could be clearer after Hopkins De la Hoya fight to unify the four main titles as I doubt the winner could keep them all. I have a thought that Hopkins may move up to face Tarver.
Calzaghe is just as stuck as Eastman but I doubt even FW will shove Calzaghe Veit 2 down our throats again. I don't tthink even Joe's most ardent fans would save the pennies for that one.

Eastman hasn't made a case for himself, we all know that in today's climate mandatory defences are only mandatory if there isn't a bigger fight out there at the time. Fighters only get stripped (like Tszyu) if it is costing the sanctioning bodies money in sanctioning fees.

Three of something. Originally used for an official body, or also used commonly to signify the father son and holy ghost, or 'holy triumverate.'

I cannot wait until September 10th, it should be a cracker, anyone know who is on the undercard yet, main event could be over quicker than a virgin's first shag.

Eastman cannot outwork Calzaghe which is what he will need to do to win, i have seen in the schedules Eastman-Sendra penned in for a few months down the road. He is way too inactive but at least the Sendra fight has the potential to be competetive.

Agreed, he let Joppy outwork him, and Calzaghe is every bit as active, and bangs with a lot more authority.
