Luis Ortiz stops Allen but looks very unimpressive

Luis Ortiz extended his unbeaten record with a seventh-round stoppage win over a brave David Allen at Manchester Arena.

The Cuban heavyweight has been named as a future possible opponent for IBF champion Anthony Joshua and he stayed on course for major fights after breaking Allen's resistance with a steady assault.

Ortiz maintained his patient attack and made the breakthrough in the seventh as a straight left unravelled Allen's defences before a flurry of punches forced the referee to step in as he sagged on the ropes.

The sad thing is Ortiz failed to knockdown Allen. He looked old, I know he's 37, but he definitely looked old tonight. Matchroom are trying to build him up to fight AJ, but after these performances.. I don't know what to say.

David Allen is very brave and has an iron chin.

Too bad he's never had a top trainer or promoter, he may have done well.

I was aggressively criticised by several members of this forum for believing that Luis Ortiz had received too much hype... two fights later and I bet there are only a few remaining passengers riding the 'King Kong' hype bandwagon.

I haven't watched the fight yet- however, admittedly I'm a big Ortiz fan boy. That said- I know he looked poor against Scott and he didn't look great here. However- he did get the stoppage atleast; something Whyte didn't accomplish.

Would you gents pick Whyte to beat Ortiz?

The description of the fight sounds like a typical Ortiz win. He breaks you down. There's no pazazz. I saw him fight Butler live. Ortiz wins likes he's doing a moderately paced workout.

No.

But Whyte for me is arguably domestic class.
Ortiz was touted as the next big thing and the most dangerous man in the division. I'd be lying if I said I didn't spout a bit of that myself.

He may still be but the signs don't look promising in his early days with Matchroom

He seems to have aged overnight! I mean he does look to be atleast mid 40's though so maybe it was inevitable lol.

Ortiz should fight Shannon the cannon. Their virtually the same age really. Ortiz being older of course.

I've never been high on Ortiz, and basically remain the same. It's not that he's bad, but he is nowhere near as good as his worshippers proclaimed. He will lose to whomever he steps up against.

He's 37, and will be 38 in March. No wonder this is happening, he isn't as young as Joshua. However, i think he'll rise with better opponents, as he did with Jennings.

He got way too much flack for the Scott fight. Malik was fighting pure defense and Ortiz got decent rounds in and clearly won every round. If you try to blow out everyone playing defense and not wanting to fight you can end up in Foreman-Ali territory.

I'd still favor him over Parker or Joshua.

That we will. I'd love to be wrong, but he hasn't shown anything aside from the Jennings fight. His age is not on his side either.

He's very possibly older than that. I think without peds hEs to late, to old.
