Liverpool’s Paul Smith (38-6, 22 22 KOs) is enjoying his role as a Sky pundit, as he explained to Britishboxers last week, but he is also eying a third world title tilt in 2017 in a bid to add more silverware to the Smith family’s collection.

“Smigga” has seen younger brother Liam Smith net the WBO light-middleweight crown, a title he later lost in an away day fight against Saul Alvarez, and Stephen Smith has also had two cracks at world honours.

Smith, though, believes that the story will not end with Liam and has predicted further title wins for each of the four brothers.

“I’m looking for a world title fight next and I’m just waiting for Eddie [Hearn, Smith’s promoter] to get back to me with confirmation of it so fingers crossed,” he said when speaking to the Liverpool Echo about a potential showdown with WBA 168lb holder Tyron Zeuge.

He added: “Liam pushed it over the line and won the world title [beating John Thompson in 2015]. Callum will do it, Stephen will get there and I will as well. There is still a lot to be written for this family yet. I have been in there with Callum and the way he punches and how he punches is frightening. He’s a quality fighter, ask anyone who has been in the ring with him—sparring or fighting.”

Smith recently told Britishboxers that he hopes to be out again in February, so if Hearn can nail a shot against Zeuge the 34-year-old could find himself in world title action in his first outing in what he said could be his final year in the sport.

How the hell does he keep getting these shots? Does he have secret pictures of fast Eddie getting tea bagged or what?

Paul smith jr is the best cruiserweight we never had...

Steven was in the local paper recently saying how he deserves another title shot - the whole family are deluded.

Can't wait for Paul's warm up fight in February - I wonder what 10-15 journeyman they can find for that 6 rounder?

3 six rounders over 18 months,with opponents combined total losses 51.seems perfectly acceptable to ask for another title shot...

This is the pish you get with multiple world titles. If it was one champion per division Smith would have done well to get a shot at the European, and would almost certainly have lost it if he had (which would be no disgrace)

Instead he, like many others 'ticks over' in glorified spars until he gets another 'world' title shot.

It total bollocks and the arguement that multiple titles improve the lot of all boxers is gash as it just devalues the sport and the earning power of British, Area, Euro, etc titles.

Multiple belts are the single biggest problem in boxing. Bar none

.... even though I found him a knob on here- he's actually a decent pundit on sky's boxing coverage. Like fornicate does he deserve another title shot though.

I'm still amazed he came in overweight for Ward. OK it was a 10000/1 shot, but come on, give it a shot! What's the point not training properly for it? He doesn't deserve another chance at a World Title and ruined a lot of his credibility for me.

Tyron Zeuge fighting Paul Smith is a good way of introducing him to the British public, before fighting one of our better super middleweights.

If Smith wins then he can defend against one of our better super middleweights himself.

Win-win. Good fight.

Yeah anyway we've seen Ricky Burns come back and have good fights or performances long after we've been fed up of him. So, boxing can surprise us, you never know.

But, have a feeling we saw the best of Smith vs Dodson and the first fight with Abraham and that after the rematch and especially the Ward fiasco, his connections rather than his achievements or ability are more to do with another title shot.

I'd rather see Callum built up with more purposeful fights and have his crack, which I believe he'll deliver the goods in as a tremendous offensive talent. I feel Callum is a hard enough puncher, and the guy to validate the Joe Gallagher style of patient, offensive fighting that some are so critical of.

Would love to see Paul in domestic fights, think there's some terrific fights out there for him - but he reminds me of Stephen Foster Jr, another guy from a considerable boxing family who seemed to have a feeling of entitlement that stopped him from having these tremendous fights at his own level.

Not surprised, whilst he does not warrant a third shot (if I am not mistaken there was never a title on the line in the Ward fight) - he did okay in both world title fights. BUT what we could have in future is a guy who beat him in two rounds, a guy who beat him in 7/8 (can't remember) one sided rounds and a guy who outclassed Abraham, who beat Smith, as world champions - they will be hard sells at best.

Zeuge is about the only one and I guess if Buglioni can fight for that title, then why not Smith still..... but I still want to see Smith at Middleweight.

Paul is as worthy as anyone else to fight for one of these valueless belts.

I'm sorry mate but he's definitely not. He's fought 3 6 rounders since being beat by Ward and losing to ( a well past his best) Abraham. There is definitely more deserving boxers than Smith for his 3rd attempt

The WBA make FIFA under Blatter look ethically sound and transparent. There needs to be an investigation into them like there was in the IBF a while ago.

Of course Paul Smith isn't even ranked deservedly so because he isn't top 50 in the weight class he also hasn't made super middleweight ( by the time this happens ) in two years.

Callum Smith whilst fighting opponents below his level is at least making super middleweight. In fact Luke Blackledge who he beat at weekend would beat Paul Smith no problem.

Paul Smith clearly ducked Fielding a couple of years ago when it made logical sense,and wanted an easy fight to win the belt outright which the board refused.

It's the standard Smith brother thing get smashed at world level and you become world level. So nothing will change if Zeuge smashes him up he will still be world level in his mind.

It’s a bit like saying every team in Europe (or the world) should play soccer for one cup! Absolutely pointless - and obviously so, imo.
There might be problems with certain organizations - I often read that the WBA for instance are an utter farce ...or is that the WBC - but surely the problem lies with the bodies and not the fact of there being a few of them.
This ain’t football.....it’s boxing. Essentially, noone gives a toss, it’s a bit murky and plenty of cranks are involved. Mind you, to be fair, look at the degenerates involved in football..
