A lack of activity with Smith Jr. taking the 1st round due to having a superior work-rate.

The scores are 20-18 to Smith Jr., with Hopkins being out worked in the second round.

Hopkins threw a couple of combinations, but they looked horrible technically, with a distinct lack of power.

Hopkins seems unable to let his hands go, but even when he does, the timing and power has gone.

The third round goes to Smith Jr., with the total scores being 30-27 favouring the underdog.

Things are looking bad for the shot executioner, not because he's getting beaten up, but because he's not letting his hands go.

I just watched a fight from 12 years ago and it took him 4 rounds to let his hands go then, the old mans biding his time

It's a case of what your stylistic preference is... a handful of sharp accurate blows landing per round from the veteran or a dozen clumsy speculative blows from relative novice.

I'm favouring the novice by the tiniest of margins.

For sure, the rounds are difficult to score, depending if you prefer work-rate over savvy veteran quality punches. I'm preferring the more active fighting style adopted by Smith Jr.

49-46 to Smith Jr.

The first half of the fight is over and I'm favouring the work-rate of the younger fighter, with my cards reading 58-56.

Hopkins got punched out of the ring... that was clear and his ankle has gone.

Hopkins is accusing Smith Jr. of pushing him out of the ring, but I didn't see it that way.

It looks like Smith Jr. has gained the victory and he was leading on my scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Hopkins suffers his first stoppage loss.

The slow motion replay confirmed that Smith Jr. scored a legitimate victory and even appeared to hurt the veteran at the time of him falling through the ropes.

It's a sad way for Hopkins to bow out, especially since he was fairly competitive in this fight.

I had 'The Alien' Bernard 'the Executioner' 'X' 'B-hop' 'the Pensioner' Hopkins 4-3 up going in to R8.

For me he was winning it on defence and punch-picking, but he looked so OLD.

Dan Rafael had Smith Jr. leading on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Hopkins is making excuses claiming that he frustrated Smith Jr. and this led to the youngster pushing him out of the ring, but surely he'd retract that nonsense claim if he saw the slow-motion replay.

His pride prevents him from seeing the blatantly obvious truth.

Credit to Max Kellerman, he told Hopkins that there wasn't a push.

Hopkins seems very bitter and is manufacturing a nonsense excuse that can clearly be disproved using 20/20 vision.
