Good points. Hasegawa would need to win the Best Swan Song Of The Year (and he still might get beat by the poetry in motion that was BHop's demise).crusader wrote:Yordenis Ugas is worth a mention; inactive for over two years after consecutive losses, then comes back and dominates two unbeaten prospects who were favored to beat him (and James was a very big favourite).
Mares had been out for a year or so, but he had a decent trio of wins prior to gamely losing against a top fighter in LSC, and was only a slight underdog against Cuellar. I dont think he had that many naysayers and it certainly didnt seem to me like he'd been written off at Cuellar's level.
I thought Hasegawa was well past it (Mares was never broken down and battered by someone like Kiko) and expected him to get beaten up by Ruiz, who was around a 5-1 favourite. He turned back the clock in style with a warrior effort, though he's retired and it may seem a bit unfitting to award this distinction to someone who has already left the sport.
