MMA is definitely the future and their fighters decide the outcome most of the time and don't leave it up to crooked judges.

I have to agree tho I never cared for MMA. It looks brutal. What can the longevity of those guys be? OK in boxing u get your brains bashed up, but mostly that's it. In mma it's your whole body that' getting twisted up and bashed around. I think they say it has a better track record than boxing for deaths in the ring, but I don't know - but all this crap in boxing is turning off its most ardent fans - fake decisions, fake referees, fake tv announcers, fake drug testing, fake match making, fake fights - fighters deliberately losing, crooks like King and Haymon running the shows ...

You can't really lump the two sports together. I mean if boxing didn't exist, I wouldn't follow MMA.

Some will say that and I might well be amongst them, but MMA is increasing in popularity while boxing is decreasing in popularity, at least it is here in the USA and I believe in most countries as well.

I think both sports will co-exist until the political machine shuts them both down for not being progressive enough.

One quick note on longevity, what limited studies are available show that boxing is more dangerous than MMA from a brain health standpoint and the reasoning is actually rather commonsense:

1. Boxers get his in the head much more.

2. After a knockdown in MMA the opponent can swarm and land a few more punches and get a stoppage, in boxing you're given ten seconds and then the beating can resume for ten more rounds.

3. Other aspects of MMA can be utilized which doesn't include punching the head. As bad as a broken arm from an armbar (an extreme injury) may hurt, it recovers and life goes on. After a serious brain injury life very often does not.

I was very into mma about ten years ago. I still watch individual big UFC cards but I migrated back to boxing thanks to an aversion to the aesthetics of watching two men rolling on the canvas entwined. I prefer boxing, warts, crooks and all.

Good points, Punchout, and yes as we all know all too well now brain injuries in boxing are horrible. Years ago it was like a joke to say that a boxer was "punchy"...but that meant his brain was permanently damaged!

I didn't like the aesthetics of mma either, Tanzio, and I used to box myself so I am naturally interested in boxing, but I, like many others, am getting so disgusted by what's going on. I'll have to re-evaluate my position on mma, because I am interested one on one combat testing sports - sports not "sports entertainment".

I'm always gonna prefer striking to hugging and laying.

I love both, I've done both. I prefer standup for whatever that is worth. MMA standup is wild if compared to boxing, but I don't compare them since they're different sports. Having done ground work in the past I have obvious interest and it doesn't bore me, but its just not as exciting to me as the standup game.

I've said before and I'll say again that one thing the UFC does MUCH better than boxing is sell itself. Boxing is so dang negative.

When I watch UFC, regardless of who is fighting, Joe and Goldie sell the crap out of the matchup. Could be a complete scrub and they'll find something good to talk about; dangerous leg kicks or whatever. In boxing we are always treated to hearing about how fighter a has never been tested and probably sucks, fighter b couldn't beat so and so from 50 years ago, this division is weak, that division sucks, etc etc etc. Watch any Klitschko fight in the past ten years and you'll see exactly what I'm saying; "He's no Joe Louis!" doesn't exactly thrill potential viewers (many of whom may not be familiar with Joe Louis) enough to stick around and watch. Teddy Atlas is also very guilty of it. Boxing commentators are basically the worst in sports because I cannot think of a single sports that produces such negative lingo while describing the action.

If there's 2 things Boxing should take from MMA it's not writing guys off when they lose a few fights, because they're certainly capable of coming back and making an impact on the sport still as MMA has shown time and time again, and as Boxers in the past showed with regularity when 2 or 3 losses wasn't a death sentence to your career.

That and making good competitive matchups. Boxing relies on selling fights based off of 1 fighters reputation entirely too much. Much more focus needs to be put on competitive matchmaking in Boxing.

I absolutely agree. Records never really come up in MMA discussions, but they are the end all for so many boxing fans these day.

It was always very common for well backed boxers to carefully select opponents that would get them to 20-0 or more... It sounds a lot more impressive when the announcer is introducing them than if they have losses.. By the time they become ranked the habit in inbred.. Tough opponents are still avoided... Parker took risks in his last 2 fights but those risks were mitigated by fighting in New Zealand with a biased commission selecting the judges and referee..

I would have thought the Heavyweight Division would be sorted out by now but it seems fights happen at a very slow and tedious pace.,. People forget that Wladimir Klitschko was knocked out 3 times before he went on his run... He's got 4 losses at 41 years old coming up... But he kept fighting and fighting and fighting... It's going to work out better for you if you fight and possibly get your ass beat -- then stalling around for months and months and cherry-picking non-competitive fights... You can work your way back into the mix if you take a risk and lose a fight... But that's not the mindset that guys like Al Haymon and Oscar De La Hoya have... Oscar should remember that he lost plenty of fights and did okay... He did great... Let's make the fights the fans want to see.

He says that the drug testing is being used to get rid of certain boxers who are a threat to beating the PED users who are not being tested or the results could be manipulated. He says that the boxers that the television networks favor want to get rid of any boxers who could beat them. I have written about a female boxer whose anti-doping test was waived, so it does not surprise me that there is favoritism and bias at the top level, especially in the heavyweight division. I love MMA and UFC but Boxing is in my opinion a much better sport.

Presumably you are referring to the Precise Presenter video that I posted above. If so, yes it is, and it is pretty much what I have been going on about too.
