The camps of WBA world cruiserweight champion Beibut Shumenov and WBA interim cruiserweight champion Yunier Dorticos are seeking to have WBA “super” world cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev removed due to his split decision loss to Murat Gassiev in a bout where Lebedev’s WBA belt wasn’t on the line.

WBA President Gilberto J. Mendoza told Fightnews.com® that the request is being duly considered by the organization. Mendoza noted that historically numerous champions have lost non-title bouts, then came back to defend their titles. A recent example was when Zab Judah lost his WBC belt to Carlos Baldomir, but maintained his IBF belt which wasn’t on the line in that fight. Zudah then put his IBF title at stake against Floyd Mayweather in his next fight.

So they probably want their fight to be for the 'Super' title?

What ever happened to the WBA reducing their belts?

Shumenov is trying to win the silver platter championship the easy way. I have no idea why this guy feels entitled to have so many championships handed to him when he's never beaten a champion.

The belt should be stripped from Lebedev and given to Gassiev.

These two fight for mandatory and in the meantime Gassiev and Lebedev can rematch. (Was a close and good fight I don't mind seeing again)

However it's boxing and more specifically the WBA who are an abomination to the sport so they'll do nothing right.

Dorticos absolutely ruins Shumenov from what I have seen.

It dosn't matter in this case beacause Dorticos will absolutely destroy him.

...don't believe they have a case because irrespective of who's won or lost, the belt wasn't on line in the first place as confirmed by the same WBA..

This true. But I don't get why the article says they are considering it.

Definitely not in favor of Shumenov getting a shot at the super belt. Lebedev could beat him with one glove behind his back and so could Gassiev and Usyk. Other 7 of top 10 cruisers would not have any problems schooling the fraud.
