Jermall Charlo Would Stay at 154 For Miguel Cotto

by Ruthless-RKO
On February 25th former four-division champion Miguel Cotto (40-5) will return to the ring for the first time in 15 months when he faces James Kirkland (32-2) in Frisco, Texas. The fight will be distributed by HBO pay-per-view.
One fighter who is very interested in the outcome is IBF super welterweight champion Jermall Charlo (25-0). The Texas native just fought a few weeks ago when he stopped unbeaten challenger Julian Williams in five rounds.
Making 154 pounds isn't easy for the 6' tall Charlo and he admits that a move to the middleweight division will happen in the near future. However one fighter he would stay at super welterweight to face is Cotto.
"I would stay for a Cotto fight. Cotto is one of the best in the world and that is all I want. I want to fight the best in the world. I am going to do my homework and see who is the best and that is who I want to fight," Charlo told BS.com.
"I want to fight the best out there. This last fight I fought another undefeated guy meaning that I didn't care about my '0'. I care about my legacy and will take a challenge from any fighter."

Miguel Cotto, THE MOST OVERRATED BOXER IN THE HISTORY OF BOXING, is going to get knocked out by Kirkland and he'll finally be retired soon after. Cotto has lost every big fight he's ever been in save a fight against an aging Martinez with two bad knees. Kirkland with Wolfe is not something Cotto will be able to handle and it's going to be Bhop through the ropes kind of an ugly end to a career. Not hoping for it but it's going to happen.

Kirkland at 153 will be severely drained. I don't rate Cotto high, but he will win by stoppage.

I agree that 153 will be tough for Kirkland to make but there's no doubt that Kirkland is a world class, borderline-elite fighter, with Wolfe in his corner. Kirkland is a train wreck waiting to happen, we all know that. But every few years, Wolfe comes back into his life and is able to get him to perform up to his ability. In my opinion, this is one of THE DUMBEST moves by a boxer late in his career. Cotto has NOTHING to gain by taking this fight. No one's going to pay to see it. A win over Kirkland means nothing at this point. If the right Kirkland shows up, he could shut the lights out on anyone. Not worth the risk....not at all. Extremely dumb.
Especially after Canelo just defeated him so thoroughly. What's the gain here for Cotto. I will bet anyone dimes to donuts that this will be a career ending fight for Cotto. Hellacious beating is coming for him.

Rough translation - "I'd stay at 154lbs for a relatively low risk fight against a past his prime welter weight because it is a guaranteed huge payday"

I would much rather see him vs Andrade if he wants to fight the best available.

Cotto will knock Kirkland out.. Kirkland can't box and he has nobody to teach him.. Wolfe stinks.. Jermall would knock Cotto kicking so fight won't happen

Cotto has done a hell of a lot more in his career than Kirkland
Kirk also has just 1 win (Glen Tapia) over nearly the last 5 years, and right before that he was down against Carlos Molina when the latter was very questionably DQ'd. In this case it's bizarre to go after Cotto for supposedly not accomplishing enough

Either Charlo brother beats Cotto right now. He better be prepared to cash out with a big payday since it could be his last significant one.

You are just one of the sheep that the networks and promoters lover to have in the palm of their hand. They keep telling you that the GREAT Cotto is fighting and you tune in like it means something. Cotto has never beaten an elite fighter. He's been in a bunch of big fights and he has not won them. His biggest win was against a 40 year old Sergio with bad knees. That's not a legitimate win. Sergio kills him if they fight 4 years earlier.
You are pathetic for using BS to explain why Manny battered Cotto. You should lose your login credentials for spreading stuff like that. Stick with facts and you may not be considered as pathetic. Joke.

When Wolfe trains Kirkland, he's a way more dangerous fighter. An undefeated fighter. That's a fact. You have no idea what you're talking about.

What's with the illiterate people joining this site lately? Where did you all come from? It's like a bus just dropped off a bunch of dopes and the site is now filled with people that can't spell, use punctuation and just call people names. Can you just go back to where you came from please OR stop commenting on my stuff? Please? I haven't any interest in a discussion with someone that hasn't finished basic English.

SIMPLE...that's a pretty good word for you and I can see why you like it so much. In my book you can't be a GREAT fighter until you defeat one or two great fighters. Cotto has never beaten any great fighters. Maybe a couple of pretty good fighters but never great. He had the chances to though and lost every one of those fights.
