Andre Ward on Kovalev Win: The Proudest I Have Been of Myself!
Posted: 06 Jan 2017, 05:46
by Ruthless-RKO
Andre Ward is very proud of his performance from last November, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Sergey Kovalev.
"I'll be honest, I've had a lot of fights in my career but this is probably the proudest I've been of myself based on how the fight went and having to just show the world, show myself, show my team that I can win a different way,"
"I've never had to come from behind and it wasn't against a B-class, C-class fighter. It was against who many said was the best light heavyweight, if not the best fighter in the world. I'm happy about the performance."
"I didn't need to get knocked down to know the fortitude that I have in me. Being a champion is not just being a frontrunner and being ahead, but it's facing adversity. If something happens and you're behind and you get hit in the mouth early like that, you have two options: You can either pack it in mentally and internally and go into survival mode and quit, or you're going to get up and go to work. We were fortunate enough to get up and go to work."
Ward has no complaints over being caught by a big shot and dropped by Kovalev.
"These things happen. You're going to face adversity. It's not if, it's when. The question is how you respond, and I'm just really, really pleased with my team, my head coach and myself by the way we responded to adversity in the biggest fight of my life. That's my historical piece and having my piece of history knowing that's true. That's only the second time that I've touched the canvas in a 22-year career, so it's not bad,"

This is why the world thinks this guys a d-bag. Most people feel that he lost the fight and he's producing soundbites like this just to aggravate people
A real man and champion responds like this...."The fight was very tough to call but both guys gave a lot. thankfully, there's a rematch clause in place so we can do it again and see if we can determine a clear victor."

luckily he gone, after feeling what it is like to be in the ring with a light heavyweight elite boxer he doesnt want any of this, never, his face was swollen tomato red, he doesnt want no 6'2 gvozdyk or bert both with ko ratios around 100 %, no no, he doesnt want this, he goes to his mid fantasyland and keeps repeating how he won against kovalev and how he is the best boxer at light heavyweight and him repeating it time after time makes him actualy believing him it.

Therefore, Andre Ward has every right to feel proud about his performance in the Kovalev fight, even if you don’t believe that he did enough to earn the victory.
Despite losing the first few rounds and getting decked, Ward somehow recovered enough to gain the winning momentum during the second half of the bout to close the gap on the scorecards, making it very difficult for a lot of people to determine a winner, which is a huge achievement considering the calibre of the opposition he was up against.
If we want to continue seeing the very best facing the very best, then we need to stop criticising those pugilists that are willing to take the risks. Andre Ward wasn’t personally responsible for the officiating during his bout with Kovalev, so any bitter and twisted Krusher fans should target their hatred towards the judges, not the fighters.

Thankfully, this dirty boring delusional boxer will be retired soon. The only thing I am afraid of is that he will work as a commentator. He will for sure be as biased as Paulie.

Paulie's a good commentator I've never had any issues with him. Roy Jones and Barry McGuigan seem to the most biased former boxers turned commentators around.

Paulie always scores against punchers counting touches/slaps the same way as hard punches.

I never really pay attention to his scorecards I don't guess. I'm always scoring the fight myself.

Paulie was laughably biased in his commentary for UK television. He somehow gave Ward the tenth and was acting like people don't know how to score if they didn't have Ward winning. He obviously leans towards the fighters more like himself.

I heard the U.S. commentary on that fight. It doesn't surprise me though that Paulie would favor other fighters with a style similar to his. Chris Byrd did the same thing the one time I saw him commentating. If you were being exclusively defensive, and throwing few punches, you were doing great according to Byrd.

Paulie thinks he's an expert.. One of my favorite Paulie stories is from his Ricky Hatton fight... Hatton wasn't considered a real good boxer. He was in fact not that terrific -- but Hatton was with Floyd Mayweather Sr for 2 fights -- the 1st of which was Paulie Malignaggi...
Floyd Sr said "Rick, we're going to outbox Paulie. Okay? Paulie can't box." ... Hatton said "Okay...but he's a really weak puncher right?" ... Sr says "And that's why he expects us to come get him -- and why we're going to box him.. Because he can't box and we're going to box the sh!t out of him."
Hatton wasn't too sure.. So the 1st round Paulie wins easily and Mayweather was on Hatton in the corner.. "You gotta listen Rick. Everything we worked on for 7 weeks, you gotta use it.. Stop that jab like this. That's the only thing he throws. You destroy that he's got nothing." Hatton kept his distance and boxed well the rest of the way. He defended well, and outboxed Paulie every round -- even nailing him with right hand counters. Paulie did so poorly that Buddy McGirt stopped the fight. Paulie was so frustrated he shoved McGirt, saying "get the fk off of me MF" or words to that effect.
Hatton returned to form in his next fight with Pacquiao... I knew that would be a disaster... He needed about 5 or 6 Paulie's before going there.

He should be proud. Valiant effort to get back in the fight, a bad decision doesn't change that.

So? Fighters have thought they won hundreds of fights that weren't that close. Manny thinks he beat Floyd. Ward is a complete douchebag, just not for this.
