Any word on what their budget is for this year? The only fight I've seen announced so far is Vargas vs Berchelt.

HBO is basing there budget on 1/10th of Povetkins PED budget.halfamill wrote:Any word on what their budget is for this year? The only fight I've seen announced so far is Vargas vs Berchelt.
The early calendar for Showtime looks very good. HBO on the other hand may be worth cancelling.caldo2025 wrote:What a horrible time to be a boxing fan. Years ago, Showtime and HBO were outbidding each other and outspending each other to gain the boxing fan's entertainment dollar. Now they appear to be in a competition to see who can spend the least money on Boxing. The losers are us fans because soon we'll have to pay PPV dollars to see fights like Cotto Kirkland type fights. It's a sad day indeed and I wonder how much Haymon's failed venture with the PBC had to do with Showtime and HBO keeping their wallets in their pockets. hmm.
Americans are cutting the cord on boxing. There is only so much you can justify spending on a show that less than 5% of your viewers is watching on its best night. They have plenty of money.Perseus wrote:Americans are cutting the cord on cable. HBO isn't being cheap, they just don't have the money. espn is feeling the pinch too.
I think this is true. I have always wondered how many people were actually subscribing to HBO because of the boxing. I really don't think it is that many. Seems like boxing has to be a losing venture for them. Will be interesting to see how the market changes as far as fighters purses. At some point they are going to have to go down or boxing will become a completely foreign sport.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Americans are cutting the cord on boxing. We'll see what Showtime's ratings are for their first quarter of fights. I think that HBO will be taking note as well. If the numbers don't do well then we could see both networks getting out of the fight business. I'm not smart enough to know how but Haymon's failed PBC experiment has had an effect on both channels slimming their boxing menu.jockpunk wrote:The early calendar for Showtime looks very good. Please list the fight schedule for the first quarter of 2017 for the non-PPV fight cards covered by Showtime and HBO and justify your claim.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Showtime isn't capable of beating HBO. It's simple math.
His point was absolutely correct. If HBO decides to commit to boxing, it is immediately top dog once again. They have way more subscribers and way more money as a network. If showtime is beating them, it is only because hbo doesn't care about boxing.Enlightened-One wrote:Please list the fight schedule for the first quarter of 2017 for the non-PPV fight cards covered by Showtime and HBO and justify your claim.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Showtime isn't capable of beating HBO. You can't, because it's impossible to do so. "It's simple math."

HBO doesn't have money problems, Americans don't care about boxing.mistersaintlaurent wrote:with what money?Evander wrote:HBO need to be more aggressive.
