Canelo Alvarez vs. Kanat Islam (May 6th)?

If Chavez Jr. and Canelo cannot agree terms, the rumour mill is hinting about Alvarez possibly facing Kanat Islam instead, who happens to be an Al Haymon fighter, which is an intriguing scenario, considering GBP's $300m lawsuit is set to go to trial in March.
I honestly don’t know very much about Kanat Islam, but he does seem quite small at 154lbs and a tad unorthodox in his approach when he’s fighting on the outside, with a slightly Golovkin-esque style when he forces his opponents to go on the retreat.
Thoughts?

Ranked somewhere between Jojo Dan and Gary Corcoran.
I'm underwhelmed.
This is a man that could literally get anybody in the world to fight him, if he faces this guy, the world of internet boxing forums will go into meltdown.

Less than a zero percent chance. Only an imbecile would think it's possible.

Five days ago, Chavez Jr. claimed that Canelo’s purse demands were excessive; as Alvarez wanted earn five times more than he did, which equates to 83% of the purse split. This is not a rumour, since Julio's words were directly quoted by multiple sources when he made this claim.
The rumour relates to multiple sources in the last 24 hours, from various territories around the globe, reporting that Kanat Islam could be GBP’s backup plan, should the fight with J.C. Jr. fall through, with the terms of the bout already agreed.
This could simply be a negotiation tactic employed by GBP to force Chavez Jr. into taking the fight on their terms, but stranger things have happened in boxing.

Islam is actually a solid fighter from what I've read. Supposedly, he had a very good amateur pedigree. I wouldn't mind this fight. Never seen him in the ring, but I trust what some of the guys tell me.

Just remember it is only a "rumor" by fightnews. If Canelo had a pair he would at least fight Jermall Charlo or Andrade. Either guy would be better than either Chavez or Islam (who?) A Cinco De Mayo fight vs Isalam? Not happening.

Jezz, a D class boxer (Kanat Islam) vs Canelo? You kidding me... Will be a sparring session for Alvarez. At minimum I would like to see was him vs Liam Williams (who is better position closing to title shot) or Demetrius Andrade to not say the expected fight vs Charlo.

Just throw Islam in with Canelo maybe he will pull off the upset.

I'm pretty skeptical that there's any legitimacy to this story. There's probably 60-70 better options than Kanat Islam.

D level ??? Have you even see him fight? I haven't, but being an Olympic semi-finalist, he may be a B level. I strongly doubt that he could be worse than that.

I agree. Wouldn't be surprised if the rumor is initiated by Kazakhs.

No and I won't do that. For an Olympic semi-finalist (who we can consider as a much prepared boxer then anothers who start in professional, since Olympians are much better technically) he should have taken at least 1 C class boxer when he reached his 12th to 16th fight not all that mediocre opponents he KO'd (it's easy for him, he didn't put himself to prove and test all he is capable of).
If you search the Olympic boxers semi-finalist to medallists now professionals, most had taken at least 1 C class opponent until their 15th fight (Luke Campbell, Ryota Murata, Oleksandr Gvozdyk to not say well known like Lomachenko, Rigondeaux and Joshua), IMO is a shame from his part. Until he fight a decent boxer I won't spend 1 hour of my life to see him...

Yes, his managers/promoters are far from aggressive, and it is regrettable like for many other fighters, but it doesn't mean that he is a bad boxer.
