Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence is Targeted For May in The UK

If Amir Khan intends to reach an agreement with his domestic rival Kell Brook - he will need to do so in a hurry, because time is running out.

Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) was mandated long ago to make a mandatory defense of his IBF welterweight title against undefeated Errol Spence.

Brook wants to fight him as soon as possible, but Khan wants to take an interim-fight in April.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, who promote Brook, has received an additional extension from the IBF to begin negotiations with Spence.

At the moment, Spence is looking more and more likely as Brook's next opponent.

"Kell is back in training, but he's not able to spar yet, so we've requested a further four weeks from the IBF for negotiations [with Spence]," Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn told scribe Nick Parkinson. "We're speaking to Khan. It could be Khan, if he wants it, but we can't promise that will happen. He wants a warm-up fight, and we want to go straight into it. Our priority is to listen to the IBF on who we have to fight, and they are telling us that will be Spence. I don't want to annoy the IBF about it. In 28 days we will start negotiations. It [Brook's next fight] will happen in May, and in the UK I expect. We've got 75 percent of the purse bid to play with, so I can't see us losing that."

Despite entering negotiations, Khan, 30, has now stated his desire to fight Brook for the world title, meaning ‘The Special One’ would have to follow through with his stipulated mandatory against Errol Spence Jr.

"The fight between me and him will be worth even more if there is a world title on the line," Khan told talkSPORT.

"Kell knows the biggest fight and biggest pay day he will ever get is against me. I am on a different level where I can face other fighters and get the same amount of money.

"I have always said to Kell and Eddie Hearn that the fight is going to be worth more money if there is a title on the line. It will be a bigger fight not only in Britain but around the world. I want him to keep hold of that IBF title because I want to take it off him.

"He has that defence to make against Errol Spence, and we are going to let him make that defence, keep hold of the title, and then the fight can happen between me and him.

"I think it is a great fight for me. I respect Kell. I think he is a great fighter and it is about time now we both get it on. I have left it to my team. I have told my team that this is the fight I want and if it makes sense financially, let's make it happen."

According to reports, Brook looks set to put his belt on the line against undefeated Spence, potentially on a May date in Sheffield, Manchester or London.

I'm not so sure if this fight happens. Kell Brook allegedly facing Spence Jr, Khan and Pacquiao during 2017 seems to be the fictional equivalent of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series to me.

Khan is as delusional as ever. Normal for him. He is banking on Spence taking the title from Brook so he won't have to fight Brook. Notice he will never say he will fight the winner.

Khan wants a tune up next. I wonder who they will get to fight him that hits very lightly? Paulie 2? :OhYes:

would be one of the best fights this year. maybe THE best. kell fought a good fight against ggg, won rds, was superior athleticly, ggg just to strong. brook/spence is a even match up, both equaly athletic & powerful.

snap - I don't think Khan wants to fight anyone unless he's going to get massive money but doesn't seem to see he has done very little in the last 5 years to call himself a marquee fighter and earn these big numbers. Still not convinced he even wants any part of Brook, he's backed himself into a corner where he's talked big for years but right now Brook isn't the marquee pigmy anymore and isn't an underdog either, so if Khan takes this having talked down Brook and loses then he loses any chance of anyone taking him seriously any more.

Good fight. Hope Brook has enough left at weight and I hope Spence is willing to come to the UK.

It would be silly for Brook to try make 147. Eddie is spot on:

Great fight, I still think it's a bad idea for brook to go back down to 47. Spence is winning that belt against whomever.

For certain Haymon is going to manipulate Spence to get an easy opponent for the Brook vacated title - Spence is Haymons chosen one and being manufactured to be a future cash cow fake star - Hearn has been or will be manipulated to see the light and play along - Haymon will likely manipulate something to give Brook an easy belt at 154 - you just have to understand how Haymon operates - Would love to be proven wrong but I KNOW how Haymon thinks and operates :shame:

Brook made it a priority to make 147 for his 3 easy mandatories, would make it for Khan, Pac, etc but for Spence it is questioned? Not advised?

Spence says he walks around in the 170's too. Both cut a lot for 147. Wait til after the fight before excuses.

Spence a fake star?!?

Errol is legit and will be a world champ before the year is out, whether he beats Brook or someone else.

Spence is not the one whining about cutting weight to make 147, even though he cuts as much as Brook. Spence is not the one that is asking for more time so he can negotiate with Khan to get out of the fight, dumbass. Try to make a post without mentioning Haymon's name. I doubt if you can do it.

Floyd also said boxing under Haymon is a big fix - Floyd actually said in 2010 in a video interview on fight hype that "I don't love boxing like I used to because boxing isn't real anymore" - Yes Floyd actually said this - it was when he was depressed because he was under enormous pressure to fight Pacquiao - "I don't love boxing like I used to because boxing isnt real anymore" - It was an incredible quote an incredible revelation that I still remember it word for word to this day - I remember he was sitting in a car doing the interview and he was really somber and depressed - clearly the pressure to face Pacquaio was eating him alive - This quote and Haymon's obvious corruption and manipulating proved to me that Haymon and Floyd are totally corrupt fight fixers who do everything for business and $$ and not for pure sport - it's WWE in disguise -
