Eddie Hearn is planning a return to the city which played host to one of his greatest nights as a promoter.
The Matchroom chief, 37, witnessed one of the greatest nights in the sport last year when Tony Bellew won the WBC cruiserweight world title at Goodison Park.
He revealed to Kugan Cassius and iFL TV that the Brentwood-based promotional outfit has April 22 reserved for a card in the city, with the ECHO Arena –– which hosted Bellew’s first defence against BJ Flores back in October –– likely to be named as the venue.
Sean Dodd, Rocky Fielding and David Price –– who sees action in an international heavyweight contest on February 4 at London’s Olympia against Christian Hammer as part of the undercard to Chris Eubank Jr.’s challenge against Renold Quinlan for the IBO super-middleweight belt –– could all box on the bill, while two-time world super-featherweight title challenger Stephen Smith is also set to make his comeback.
Tom Farrell, the undefeated 10-stone WBA International champion, and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald are also expected to feature.
Stephen Smith lost out to WBA ‘regular’ champion at 130 pounds, Jason Sosa, in Monte Carlo in November and Boxing Scene understands that an immediate return with the New Jersey fighter is high on the 31-year-old’s priority list.
For Rocky Fielding, the WBC International super-middleweight king, a fight with J’Leon Love has long been part of the plan and seems to have been in the works and off more times than you can, well, I don’t know.
But Hearn revealed there were financial stumbling blocks to be overcome with the 29-year-old, who is part of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s Money Team.
