As always, another great (rare) film - Thank You - Do you know who is the fighter between 239- 247? - Is that Sharkey?

Tunney was the only great boxer he faced near his -own size... So their fights pretty much distroy any idea Dempsey was a great defender.

Sharkey was in there a few times. They sort of of mixed up the footage; althernating between several fights. Willard, Tunney, Carpentier, and Sharkey were in there. One looked like an exhibition, it may have been Bill Tate.

When you think of Demspey, you don't usually think of defense. However, he showed good head movement in those highlights. If you watch more of Demspey, at times he was hard to hit.

Cracks me up when they use these little short clips of him against Sharkey, Tunney etc to hype his defense. He got absolutely hammered by Sharkey and Tunney. He ate so many jabs and right hands youd have thought they were tic tacs. The completely inept and crude Firpo found no problem hitting him and decking him three times. Bill Brennan wrote the book on keeping Dempsey on the end of a 1-2. Theres a reason Dempsey looks so much better in sparring its because hes fighting guys who didnt have anything. Look at his sparring footage with Tommy Loughran. Tommy handled him just like Tunney did. Even Carpentier, outweighed by 20 pounds and totally overrated wobbled Dempsey badly with several right hands.

I think Dempsey was clearly the most overrated boxer of all time.

Most of his early round KOs were against totally inept opponents. He was KOd by Fireman Jim Flynn in 1.

Dempsey = folklore.

"folklore" sure scored a lot of devastating knockouts against good fighters.

If it had not been for Dempsey the sport of boxing would be "Folklore" today.

Folklore is NOT an insult.

John Wayne, Mark Twain, Dempsey are all Folklore and these men are Giants.

Dempsey helped make boxing. I just wouldn't put him on any all time great list like I would Jack Johnson, Joe Louis etc.

I don't think anyone is saying he was the best of all time. However, he has to be in the top 10 for heavyweights or close to it.
