Jack Dempsey as a boxing referre officated over 300 bouts over a span of 47 years
(not including wrestling matches)
so he was actually in the ring alongside a lot of future Hall of Famers moving and around them.

and any footage of "The Manassa Mauler" is good footage,so please post any fights he referred on this thread.
(I just like seeing how he moved around the ring myself)

Read an anecdote about Dempsey the referee: after being hit low repeatedly, a frustrated fighter complained to the ref (Dempsey) about the constant low blows, and an incredulous Dempsey replied back, 'so hit him low back.' - not so sure Dempsey was a good referee

In the top clip they talk about corporations sponsoring amateur fighters. The 'main fight' featured two fighters promoted by two different car companies. When did that leave us?

I dunno either, but it said they were both employees of the car companies they were representing.

and in this movie OFF LIMITS (1952) starring Bob Hope, you can see the 57 yr old Manassa Mauler back in the ring
(but obviously having slowed down some, but still moving around real good)
Jack Dempsey has 2 scenes in it as the referee,
beginning at 2:10 seconds and a longer scene toward the end at 81 minutes into the clip.

interesting enough not too long ago I was looking through a book about the famous football player of the 1920's Red Grange
aka "the Galloping Ghost" and there was a mention of Jack Dempsey in a 1924 article by Grantland Rice who wrote in his sports colunn,
which was so interesting I thought I would post it here.

"Red Grange runs as Paavo Nurmi runs and Jack Dempsey moves,
with almost no effort, as a shadow flits and drifts and darts.
There is no gathering of muscles for an extra lunge. There is only the effortless ,ghostlike weave and glide upon effortles legs with
a boody that can detach itself from the hips-with a change of pace that can come to a dead stop and pick up instant speed,
so perfect is is the co-ordination of brain and sinew "

Dempsey was the referee and sole judge of the Uzcudun-Max Baer fight in Reno. He was also the manager of Baer. The fight went the scheduled 20 rounds. Dempsey awarded the decision to Uzcudun.

I think this footage may be from 1928 when Dempsey was in Detroit to referee a fight with Johnny Risko.
