This is being reported as a done deal and said to be announced tomorrow for JP's WBO title.

Thoughts?

Parker beats him. Hughie is overated. Parker isn't the finished article but finds ways to win. I'm surprised this has been made, but Hughies lack of quality opponents and inactivity, plus PED achne will all count against him at this time.

tough fight. dangerous fight for both. hughie looks well conditioned, parker has a problem with stamina, he gassed against fat boy. on the opposite hughie has never felt power like he is going to feel against parker. normaly hughie should win, with his reach, keeping the distance with powershots and jabs. but hughie being green, i think he gonne trade to much with parker, ultimatly ending being tkod

Good post, I think very similarly. I don't think Hughie has much power to bother Parker with, though. If Parker goes in aggressive like he did against Dimitrenko, I think he'll stop Hughie. If he boxes defensively like he did against Takam and Ruiz - who he gave a lot of respect to - then I could see him being outpointed.

pretty easy stoppage for parker.

A good fight regardless of the result, and the kind we need more of in boxing.

Props to Hughie and his team for not seasoning him for another decade before trying for a title. Even if he loses, this will be a good experience. They're doing it the right way.

I think this fight can be a lot more competative as most people here seem to think.

Hughie is taller, has more reach, is finally in shape again and has allways been an intelligent/mature boxer, I think it will be a 50/50 fight, where Parker is better, but Hughie the more intelligent boxer.

Parker would have to stop Fury in order to get a win in Manchester. I doubt he can do that.

You have to be crazy to think Peter Fury will put his SON in if he wasn't ready. I think Hughie wins by wide UD.

FWIW I think Fury wins this one in a close competitive bout, MD after Fury is in trouble early.

Afterwards everyone screams robbery...of course.

On that note Charles Martin doesn't have what it takes to be a top heavyweight either...and yet he "won" a title. There's a lot of room in the heavyweight division right now.

Charles Martin was never a top heavyweight and winning a paper title doesn't automatically make you one.

Yes, there is a lot of flab in the heavyweight division, which means it makes no sense to talk about 'top heavyweights' in relative terms, only absolute.

It makes no sense at all really. There is one proven elite heavyweight in this division and he's over 40 and on the down side. Then there's Tyson Fury...then everybody else. Joshua is unproven, Wilder is unproven, Otiz is unproven, Parker is unproven, Miller is unproven, Washington is unproven, Hughie is unproven AND the youngest with the most time to develop. It's far too soon to count him out when we have no idea how good anyone at the top really is.

Hughie showed a better performance at the age of 19 against Rudenko, then Lucas Browne in his own prime.

Great fight for Parker he beats Hughie any day it will probably be in the UK so I think team Parker will be very motivated for a late stoppage to make sure of the victory Joe wins in 11 while well ahead on the card's.

It's hard to tell how this would go, as it's hard to determine where Hughie is. I think we have found a lot out about Parker in the last 18 months, and perhaps he still has a long way to go in his development, but he now has had enough of the right fights to win this fight. There's no chance that this fight doesn't go 12 rounds, as I'm not convinced either has the tools to knock the other out.

I fancy it to be a close UD/SD for Parker.

Parkers defining wins against Takam, Ruiz and Dimitrenko show that he has potential and at age 24 he can only get better. Its well known that heavyweights do not reach physical maturity until their late twenties/early thirties so his natural 'man strength' will improve as he gets older. Whilst he has won the WBO title with his current trainer, I feel that he would benefit now from a change to a new guy who can improve his defence but maintain his aggression. I like Parker and even now I think he beats Hughie...

It's a decent fight, shouldn't be world title level, but still a decent fight.
