This actually pisses me right off. 3 fight novice from Bulgaria Svetoslav Dimitrov

While the opponent is ok for Harley I just dont agree with bringing over a Bulgarian when there are opponents in the UK that are keeping the BBBoC in money. There are 115 British middleweights in this country and thet have to pluck out of thin air a Bulgarian. Where do they find these boxers? Why do we need Eastern Europeans taking money from lads in this country that are perfectly able to fight and possibly can do with the income? Is having a Bulgarian on your record some sort of toughness symbol?
Whats wrong with Dean Croft for example
http://boxrec.com/boxer/659935 or Tommy Carter
http://boxrec.com/boxer/763666 ? Arent they good enough for the young Benn boxer? honestly the BBBoC need to look at employing someone to oversee that lads in this country get a payday at this stage of a boxers career rather than letting shite through the doors to go down in 1 round and take the wage packet. Boils my piss. BBBoC know eff all.

Dean Croft is a close friend of mine, he got offered Conor Benn on the AJ show but the money was crap and he had a few niggles from a fight the week before.

Thats a shame. But I only used his name as an example oi British boxers who could fight Harley. I just don't get it allowing foreigners over here to take money from people who can use it. Also I just dont get how they pluck names out of thin air

I thought that Matchroom were the better payers - all this earn with Hearn stuff?
Or is it that with Hearn there is a better chance of actually getting paid?

Ive read several times that, allegedly, Frank pays better when he actually pays, but Hearn is more reliable.

For a Conor Benn/Harley Benn opponent, they be paid in £50 notes on the night. And the gap is quite big. What they offered for that bout, on box office, wasn't much more than an average 4 rounder on a small hall show.

For someone in the UK 10k is nothing, for a Bulgarian it's a lot of money, so they will accept more easy.

You are telling me a British 'journeyman' or losing novice wouldnt be interested in a 10k fight? I know i have mental issues but that comment is bizarre.

joelouis1234 wrote:The unfortunate reality for a lot of promoters & matchmakers is that they can easily make up to 30 or 40 telephone calls in a single attempt to find an opponent for one local lad on a show only to be told over & over again for a wide variety of reasons that a potential opponent is unavailable.Eventually an opponent is found & agreed & often a week or two later a phone call is made to the promoter or matchmaker with somebody saying 'sorry the said opponent has now withdrawn' for some reason! In contrast one or two calls or an email sent to a foreign agent produces an opponent who nine out of ten times appears on the day! I don't think the issue is that British boxers are not being offered work or that they are not seen as the preference, on the contrary a UK opponent usually works out less expensive for the promoter, but rather the issue is that many potential UK opponents or rather their managers, for various reasons decline the offers of work.If you look through the weight divisions of the U.K. rankings you will see at least 10 to 15 local lads who have carefully matched winning records. These are often local 'ticket sellers' who promoters have an incentive to keep winning. Those lads won't be sent away for fights unless there is a realistic chance of winning or if a title fight of some sort arises. Others with very good records often won't be Invited to fight local ticket sellers or novices as they would be considered too much of a risk & they themselves or rather their managers usually wont send them away to fight through fear of losing their 'O' & often the regular quality journeymen are already booked out months in advance.
While i think there is some truth in what you have written i still find it hard to believe that the reason a British opponent was not found is because of the reasons you have said. There is 115 middleweights in this country and you could argue they could also look at light middle too to find an apponent. I would say there are possibly over 200 boxers in this country that could fot the bill. If a promoter cant locate a fighter out of a possible 200 then there is something wrong with the way he looks for opposition.
I wager there would be a queue of opposition in the UK that would love to try to have a Benn name on their record especially if the opponent beat him.
Personally i think there are other reasons and thats lining the pocket of tbe promoter. Promoters in tbe UK should be or have a responsibility to give jobs to British lads where appropriate. In this case there is absolutely no excuse.
I wouldnt think the fee is going to be more than £1000 tops and this Bulgarian is going to show nothing. Thats nlt the point though as an oplonent who will do exactly the same could and should be found here.
The BBBoC should clamp down on this especially for a debutant, i understand European opposition has to be found at some point but not on a debut fight.
I wonder how many Bulgarian promoters look for British fodder when matching one of there debutants.
Its all wrong and should be stopped.

Lend me a few quid.......????
They'd be lucky to get 3.5k with expenses and that because of who there fighting. A normal non TV show against your average boxer id say they'd get around 700.

It upsets me that lads in this country dont get a look in and this is not the first example. The BBBoC should clamp down on this sort of thing but they are so inept full of old duffers who collectively know nothing about boxing.

There is nothing the board can do, even if they wanted to, which they shouldn't. There aren't enough domestic journeymen about and they're frequently unreliable, as posted above, leading to mad scrambles to find opponents at short notice, which usually end in a eastern European opponent anyway.
Just because a fighter is from this country doesn't mean they have some sort of divine right to a payday in the early stages of a prospects career, not like the crowd are paying to see them. If the promoter/matchmaker wants to bring in a fighter from abroad then they're perfectly free to do so, as they should be. In this case he probably shouldn't be fighting this Bulgarian because the likelihood is that he's absolutely terrible and he should have a better opponent, where that opponent is from is absolutely irrelevant.
Where does this whole give domestic fighters a payday shite end? Should all British world champions make regular defences against domestic opponents to give them a payday too?

I know a kid 1-0, who they enquired about for C. Benn, they wanted his amateur card first. It was decent, no more. They got a Bulgarian or something in, one round. He's extremely protected.

Its not the point 'where does the domestic opposition end' ive said european oppostion has to come into play at some point. Im not stupid to think British boxers have to fight British boxers until they run dry. But there is no excuse in this case and many cases like this. You are telling me a promoter in this country cannot locate a boxer out of 115 middleweights in this country and how many light middleweights? There must be at least 50 or 60 boxers in this country adiquate to fight a debutant. And you are telling me they are unreliable? When they are a stones throw away? I dont believe it for one minute. Harley Benn could fight 5 or 6 before they decide to look elsewhere.
Also i never suggested a boxer has a devine right.

What can the BBBoC do to stop this? If a manager/coach wants to bring in guys from abroad for whatever reason then that is their prerogative. There is nothing that the BBBoC can do about it especially when it is an EU country as if they tried to stop these imports for coming in it would be classed as a restriction of trade and they could be taken to court.
I totally agree that BBBoC boxers should be used but the truth is that fights can only be made if there is 2 willing parties ready to make a fight and it doesn't matter what the BBBoC say or do they can't force managers to make fights unless they hold a title governed by the BBBoC.
