Anyone going?
I think this is possibly the first time nobody on any forum has expressed any interest in the fight - could this be the Hatton fight that dosent pack the MEN?

I hope it is the fight that barely fills half the arena ....

Can't see why anyone would want to go and see this. Not even die hard fans can be happy with this fight.

And for the first time i really hope he loses and gets KO'd

I can't believe Total Joke is ranked IBF #4 ... in front of Floyd Mayweather of all people.

It might not be a class matchup, but to be honest, it will make for an entertaining brawl that will hopefully end up on American TV.

can someone please tell me whats the point? lets go through the parameters: 1st hatton FW cannot make hatton mitchell.mitchell holds the IBF belt so this could have been hattons real shot at a world title.now haton is fighting for the mandatory spot..where is the logic? even if he does win how will FW enforce hatton mitchell or hatton zoo.when zoo has clearly said over on fightnews he WILL NOT FACE HATTON..plus FW couldnt bring us hatton mitchell in the summer?

this brings us to the WBA title.rather than let the fight go to purse bids FW removes hatton from the WBA rankings n hatton would rather forfeit his purse than share purse parity with harris.naturally its harris shot to call as his the champ.FW doesnt agree as harris doesnt seel tickets.frankly this is not the point.the challenger can NEVER dicate to the champion.that makes little to no sense at all.

this now brings us to the WBC strap.main events has already said gattin will not fight hatton on his or FW terms despite the large purse FW offered.naturally gatti is the champion and his track record is proven plus his massive attraction world wide not just in manchester so i have to agree with gary shaw.gatti has bigger fish to fry to IE mayweather zoo dorin rematch etc.

this now brings us to the WBO.hatton has already forfeited his mandatory slot years ago when he failed to enforce his number 1 position n challenge corley.he certainly was not going to fight zab for the belt and waited for the interim fight against pinto.pinto hatton never happened n now cotto n pinto r fighting for the vacant belt.will FW be willing to make hatton pinto again? i think not.also will FW risk his poster boy agaist bob arums super star miguel cotto..i sincerely doubt it.so how DOES HATTON INTEND TO BE A WORLD CHAMP OR FIGHT SOMEONE WHO IS RANKED IN THE TOP 10 WHEN HIS PROMOTER CONSISITENTLY CANNOT MAKE BIG FIGHTS? HOW ABOUT WITTER HATTON ANYONE? witters pedigree is proven and he is a triple champ including the EBU.so y have we been served mitchells leftovers?????????

Don't think so. Showtime only shows cards that are the first Saturday of the month now, along with bi-weekly Thursday night ShoBox cards.

Stewart says he's fighting a tune-up on August 26th ... let's pray he loses.

Let's hope so, cos a pain in the pocket is probably the only thing that would truly hurt the team and make them pay attention.

Having read the letter from Ndou callin for a fight, which would have been interesting, how disappointing to then see the bout is with "wot a joke".

Agree with everything except .....
dorin rematch etc
Quite clearly a mismatch from the first bell, hell isnt gatti a little overrated, he has a great chin and heart but struggled with branco and it wasnt quite a prime Ward.

I think it might actually hurt hattons feelings in a way, he wont like to see his suppot waining, i do think he wants the fights but warren wont risk his cash cow to make 'em... just my opinion.

Well, he certainly could do, going on the little I've seen of him...... Were he fighting anyone of note. But when you're talking about a guy whose last fight was against a debutant, it probably ain't that likely.

For Gods sake, I know next to nothing about boxing, really, and even I know this fight is total shite.

Indeed but an good match for hatton nevertheless.

Agree again but then the "cow's" got legs and needs to think about stepping.

a good fight for hatton / boxing fans, gatti has the style to go to war with hatton, iron chin and war-type mentallity. It'll prob never happen thogh

This is the biggest dissapointment of the year for me. Stewart may be a brawler but its not the fight i wanted to see Hatton in. Whoever above me said 'mitchell leftovers' was dead right. Is allegedly incapable of landing these big fights? Will Hatton lose his zest and slip up against Stewart? I hope not

Hatton won't slip up, he'll retire with a 102-0 record without a major fight on the record.

Then why did he give up his #1 mandatory shot at Harris if he wanted the big fights? He's greedy, all about money, no heart and desire.

I think the fact that Hatton was willing to sacrifice his #1 position, means that allegedly cannot be blamed. Remember, it was Ricky who was slagging off his own promoter for not getting him the big fights, so why would Hatton then cave into pressure from Warren if Frank tried to convince him to forget about the fight

I have to say having re-read Harris' statement from his website, that he is living in a dreamworld.

He seems to think boxing is fair, and that the champion always gets more than the challenger, well that might be the case in an ideal world, but not the real world. Just ask Felix Sturm, or Bernard Hopkins who I seem to recall got less than Trinidad, and will be getting less than Oscar.

by Lefthookhappy19
Trinidad and Oscar are massive exceptions to the normal boxing rules though, multiple weight world champions having faced many top fighters in their career with their whole countrys behind them. Rickys a local phenomenon looking for his first big fight and world title. Their is no parallel at all with guys like Oscar and Trinidad with Hatton.

Lets look at it the other way round, Sturm and Hopkins where willing to take less money to fight Oscar and Trinidad knowing if they won their reputations would be massively enhanced. Rickys not even willing to go 50-50 with Harris, it seems for Ricky Hatton to take a fight he must have every single little advantage going in his favour, it stinks of no confidence.

by jamesmcdonnell
Or just plain greed. There are parallels, I can think of many fights where a champion got less than the challenger. There's a difference between being a champion and a draw, you can have a title belt and be virtually invisible.

Witter would be a much better match than Stewart - no question about that cant see why that fight cant be made - the excuse was american TV didnt want it - well they arent having this one and didnt televise hattons last joke fight did they? More bullshit from SN & FW.

Posted: 12 Aug 2004, 11:09
by jamesmcdonnell
I think Hatton and Warren would rather kill one another in a mutual suicide pact than give Witter a payday and a shot at Hatton.

I don't think Hatton is interested in the belts or glory (obviously because he's kept the WBU), who in there wright mind would give up the No 1 position with the WBA for a fight with Stewart, I thing Warren has delivered Hatton a good fight in Harris one which Hatton should have won but i feel he aint interested, he just loves the money.

jmcdonnell, this was exactly what i was trying to explain to you ref. hatton-harris,the fact that hatton is the attraction-harris is most def not, glad you agree now................
