Does Amir Khan Not Like the British Fight Scene?

Was originally going to post this under the title 'Does Amir Khan Not Like Britain' but i thought that was inflammatory and don't want it to go down the usual route.
However, reading through the Brook v Khan thread, it did get me thinking if something within the British fight scene has irked Khan. He has never wanted to fight any of his British counterparts despite them posing good challenges to him. The likes of Murray, Thaxton and Brook are the immediate ones that spring to mind. Every time it was claimed he didn't want them to earn a payday off his back. It's not like he even won the British title and had to give out voluntary defences.
On top of that, he never really seemed keen to build a UK fan base and shot off to America at the first opportunity only interested in returning to make ppv money which never really materialised as people lost interested in him due to his fights being on between 2am and 4am.
I know he has been getting fairly decent purses in the states but nothing overly substantial (bar Canelo). Considering the exchange rate was pretty high during those years, surely he would have been better off staying in the UK and cleaning up in front of sell out crowds and on ppv rather than being the 'b' side and a guy you need to beat in America?

Think Movies ,, Do you want to be an aclaimed British actor , who sells out the Eastend , and makes great british films ,, or do you want to be a hollywood star who can't act very well . Amir made his choice

Amir Khan is just a little deluded.
He thinks he's better than he is; he thinks he hits harder than he does; he thinks he's worth more than he is & as a consequence, he lies idle for long periods & swerves natural fights whilst chasing big fights that he has no right to be chasing.
One day Amir Khan will realise where he went wrong, but by that time, what prime has left will have long passed him by.

Turn it around a bit more, do you want to go to Hollywood and get supporting roles that pay you decent money or be a major British filmstar who regularly makes better money than a Hollywood support actor who also gets the odd chance to be the lead in a Hollywood film?
Khan talks a lot about money and i think he would have made more over here. If he got a huge fight in America then obviously he would make a killing but he wouldn't have brought anything to the table. If he fought Mayweather or Pacquiao, they would both be able to argue that they have sold more UK ppv's than he has so his negotiating position would be weakened.

Not forgetting Gavin Rees back in the day, I thought that would have been a good fight.
Amir is a great entertaining fighter and I will always watch his fights but I cannot stand him when he opens his out. I'm not interested in him outside of the ring as his ego is too big and yes he is a good fighter but nowhere near as good as he thinks!

Khan is doing a straight bottle job if he doesn't fight Brook. No excuses.

I think you will find a lot of Sheffield boxers have been deluded over the years, even though Khan is from Bolton he still reminds me of tbe likes of Hamed, Nelson and that Spice Boy lad.

Khan has fought pretty much everyone out there, always put on a great show, competed at the highest level, and has deservedly earned well.
He is not a bad actor in Hollywood but one of the leading men.

I've a few questions for you (and anyone else who wants to answer them), if you don't mind?
1) Do you think Khan could have earned more by basing himself in the UK for longer and building a fanbase?
2) Do you think Khan would have been more successful by taking more fights over here rather than as the 'b' side in America
3) Which career win made him a 'leading man' in any division?
I'm not saying i disagree with you, i'm just interested to know people's views

1- No
2- No
3- If I recall after his Judah win I had him LWW #1 for a brief period of time. (Will dig out my old rankings later).
Khan was absolute huge in the UK in his ITV days and I don't think we should under-estimate the ridicule he endured after his Prescott loss. The embarrassing General public reaction to his KO probably made him fancy fighting in the states more.
Let's be realistic now. If we ever have a big name fighter who stays in the UK fighting they get milked and fight less deserving fighters. Think of some of the long title reigns we've seen and the dross they faced.
If Khan stayed in the U.K he'd of had less losses, fought inferior opposition and the difference in his bank balance is probably negligible.

If he ends up plotless like 90% of fighters do, he'll regret not going through with this fights, there is serious dough to be made even if it's 50/50 or 60/40. Crazy to let egos get in the way of a fight this big.

I know he was huge but he hadn't really secured the long term fanbase that he craved. He had a lot of goodwill from the UK audience but they were terrestrial tv people and not sport subscribers. My gran loved him and would talk about his upcoming fights.
If he had stayed in the UK, fought more fighters, built a fanbase, won titles and then gone out to Vegas for a couple of fights to get to know the US market do you not think he could have made similar money to Hatton? Calzaghe left it too late to make the real big money but lets not forget Hatton made £25m for the Mayweather fight

I dont think Amir has been the 'b' side on a lot of fights.
Maybe 3-4 times. He's probably been the 'A' side in all his welterweight fights so far.

Like most i'm not actually a fan of Amir , but theres one thing that can be said abut the lad , he is'nt going to finish his carreer wondering , he has put his balls , his chin and his ego on the line many times,, Brook well he was lets say nursed , until he got his shot , he won or rather got the nod in a close one ,, shut out and refused to fight anyone since with the exception of going for a money fight with GGG , which he lasted a few rnds until GGG got warmed up ,,, Since then he's ducked his mandatory and spent his life calling out Khan who he is convinced he can beat ,, now refuses because probably a carreer high purse at 70-30 is not enough
What next call out Mayweather and demand 50-50

This forum is wierd. You go from clued up guys to clueless clowns in one post. Amir doesn't shift tickets to pay his demands, fact, I've been there several times. Kell won't fight anyone? He really would. He's just in the who needs him club. And that's rubbish about GGG not being warmed up, Kell had a real go at him, whereas I thought in the Canelo fight, Alvarez was just waiting for the moment to time Khan. They need each other. Khan wasn't even wildly popular in the ITV days. Maybe with people on the telly, like that guys gran, but not with ticket buyers. When the commentators tell you it's a sell out, it really isn't most of the time.

Great post. I agree 100%
I also think it's an easy enough nights work for Kell

Amir Khan was at his peak during 2007-2011, the Garcia fight resulted in a downward spiral for him.
Not really interested in watching him fight anymore I respect his charitable work but not for me anymore !

These past few years i have really gone off Khan, largely because he has been irrelevant at world level at his proper fighting weight coupled with his ill-founded arrogance.
His light welterweight career was amazing until he sadly got destroyed by Garcia. But since then he has basically been semi retired and his worrying delusion has shown through. Waiting to cash out against Mayweather was just desperate and sad.
He clearly wants no part of Brook. I cant think of a man alive on the planet who actually thinks Khan would win that fight. He is obviously and purposely trying to price Brook out of the right. 50-50 is a fair split. The fight wouldnt be so big without both men. Khan needs to acknowledge that fact rather than act like he is some undefeated, elite, undisputed champion. For fornicate's sake, Brook is the world champion here and Khan hasnt held a world title since July 2012! This shit will define Khan's career with British fight fans.

He looked crap against Peterson the bout before Garcia too.
