If you were teaching a young lad the fight game and you could choose one fighter and one fighter only from history as a shining example of how to do it right, who would you pick?

This question came to me watching Salvador Sanchez fight Danny Lopez and Wilfredo Gomez.

This kid knew how to box and he knew how to fight.
His delivery of punches was technically excellent, his composure and control, even in the face of a barrage of punches was a joy to behold and his movement, both upstair and down was excellent and not just definsive, as it was always used with a view to launch an attack.

If I were to pick a fighter to demostrate to my son how it should be done, from the textbook, this is my man.

Joe Louis, absolutely perfect punching technique.

I kind of agree with that. Joe had the speed, the accuracy & the timing to maximise his punching.

Salvador Sanchez is an excellent choice.. he would be my 2nd choice -- but I would go with Vasyl Lomachenko for my model. Take the Sal Sanchez-Pat Ford fight.. An interesting fight and Sanchez had a great deal of experience over Ford.. One judge ruled it a draw and Sanchez did have a lot of difficulty.

Lomachenko has more moves... better footwork... fires more sustained combinations... his punches are more pin-point.. and he fires from more angles while ripping in more body shots.. If you're asking who Lomachenko ever beat, I don't think anybody else is going to beat Gary Russell or Nicholas Walters very soon. They're solid World Championship caliber fighters who would surely give Lopez or Gomez the works.
