I would have prefered to see him against Wach for example, or Briggs, but at least it's better then Wawrich or whatever his name was.

Yes, at least he's better than Wawrzyk.

he's about the same level i think and this fight should show it. and Wawrzyk&Washington probably beats Wach now (Brazilian journeyman was robbed vs Wach not that much time ago) so i think Washington was the best choice (obviously better than Rudenko which was considered too)

If the next (after Washington) Wilder's opponent is Joshua/Klitschko/Ortiz/Haye/T. Fury/Parker - it is OK.
If not - :verysad:

Not too often a replacement fighter is better than the guy he's replacing.

Decent fight. Washington may actually be better than Duhaupas and Molina, whereas I'm pretty sure Wawrzyk is worse.

Fight seems interesting on paper I doubt it turns out all that interesting in the ring. Washington seems to be able to take a shot pretty good, but he's slow and only has about 4 and a half rounds of stamina in the tank.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t endorse this fight.

I always try my upmost to be optimistic, by trying to find even the smallest hint of a silver lining in the largest of dark clouds, but I’ve miserably failed to discover anything positive about this contest.

Stylistically-speaking, Gerald Washington is simply awful! It's not a competitive bout.

Gerald Washington was only awarded a top-ten ranking by the WBC on the back of his victory over Ray Austin, an opponent that had lost three of only four contests he’d competed in over a span of almost seven years. Two months prior to facing Gerald Washington, Ray Austin lost his previous bout to Andy Ruiz Jr. by a fourth round stoppage.

Simply put: Gerald Washington hasn’t earned the right to be allowed to compete in a world title fight!

Deontay Wilder initially captured his WBC World heavyweight title on the 17th January, 2015, but he’s never been forced to engage in a mandatory defence of his title, which means that he’ll almost certainly be allowed to enjoy (at least) a 2½ championship reign without having faced any half-decent opposition.

Wawryzk deserved a shot though?

Wilder fighting guys that aren't worthy of a title shot is the story of his entire title reign. You might as well get used to that sh*t because he'll still be doing it next year too.

Better than what was originally scheduled, though Washington being better than Wawrzyk doesn't somehow make this a good fight.

Washington has fought one decent opponent, someone who wasn't even top 15 themselves, and was fortunate to get a draw. His best win is over a shell of Eddie Chambers who didn't remotely try to win.

Correct... Washington is big, stiff, slow, awkward, and has no weapons. At one time he looked like a fair prospect for the NFL, but failed to get drafted because of numerous injuries he suffered.. For me he's another Seth Mitchell except that his knees aren't as bad.. But his Boxing skills are even more undeveloped.. He's big and strong and he can hit, but he's not going to hit Wilder.

He should be matched with Dominic Breazeale, not Deontay Wilder. The world has gone mad with matchups like this. The Povetkin lawsuit is coming up this month versus Dibella and Wilder... Hopefully Wilder's shameful ass will be nailed to wall for everyone to see.

If Wilder fights a legit opponent 29 years from now, then I can let this slide.

I was just wondering, if Wada/Vada once again have no option left but admitting Povetkin is 100% innocent, just like all other times this most tested boxer in the world has, shouldn't he replace Washington anyway?

Another ridicolous fight for Wilder. Just a little bit less ridicolous than the other ones.

Who knows how good Washington really is yet, being undefeated, but if it is a mismatch it must mean Wilder is better than most here would like to admit. I understand because he is coming off two surgeries. If Wilder does not fight a legit top opponent after this, I will be 100% on the band wagon to call for him to be stripped.

About as good as a 44 year old out of prime 6ft1 Amir Mansour, who already lost 1,5 year before against current cruiserweight Steve Cunningham.

Fortunate to get a draw against Mansour, in a hard fight with Aguilera......I don't think he's some hidden special talent.

Washington is by far his worse defence yet, you are getting misled by the fact he is undefeated, there is a good reason he is undefeated. He has a punchers chance but will likely get knocked out.

By far? I don't think he's any worse than Arreola, Molina, or Duhaupas.

I agree that they are all on the same level.

If we're considering how bad the challenger looked at the time the fight was made, I think Molina was the worst of the bunch. But Molina did go on to KO Adamek a year later so he looks better in hindsight.
