The IJL card last night has really been playing on my mind. Joke scorecards and decisions are a permanent fixture of boxing, and have been for as long as I have been following the sport. Seriously - what can be done to stop similar things happening in future? Are governing bodies/officials even paying attention?

I was watching the fight on the iPad. Was on my lap while the Mrs and kids were watching tv. I don't know what to say really. The fight was on with no sound and I was watching away. After the first six from what I've heard Vargas could've/should've been up by a clean sweep! From what I saw he was dominating. After the last six I gave Vargas 4 rounds. Two to McDonnell but not with any confidence. Point I'm making is, how anyone could've watched that fight (and got paid) and saw it as a draw is beyond me! It's a shocker! We need it to stop! Yeah it happens else where but let's sort ourself out first!

Washington should've been up 4-0 last night too, yet somehow he was down on one card and even on the others.

Seems like not many fuckks are given by those with the power to make significant changes. How often do refs get called in to explain their cards, and when that happens, what comes of it? How often are there investigations for untoward influence? Outcry from fans and fighters is about all there is, and that doesn't go very far.

I'd like to see more suspensions and/or demotions. Someone like IJL should have to take a break, explain his scores, maybe go through some extra training, and work his way back up to judging fights of that significance.

This is the crux of it. Every time IJL hands in a dodgy scorecard or makes a fool of himself refereeing, I always think "well surely that's the last we'll see of him for a while", only for him to return and do exactly the same a week later. Either no-one in power is watching, or they just don't care.

I actually said to my mate, there were 4 officials there, 2 American and 2 British, McDonell might regret having one of those 2 in the ring with him.
Although I had it 4-5 rounds difference I feltit was well within robbery territory. Particularly in a British ring.

Lo and behold, the British ref gives the shocking card.

Credit to Paisleys own Victor Loughlin though, he actually rolled his eyes and had a wry smile when he heard IJL's score read out

I don't know the guy or know anything about him but he seems to come across as a bit of an attention seeker! Dodgy score cards will get you attention albeit unwanted attention.

I remember him at some of the old amateur shows. He's a good referee and a supporter of the sport.

Uk is worse than Germany now. IJL and big tezza (carrying cleverly to his corner) need a long break.

That draw card needs looking at. Sit him down and make him explain how he came to the decision.

I refuse to believe these judges that adore boxing are giving scores by what they see.
There's probably no other reason other than money being exchanged.
Darleys Perez vs Maurice Hooker comes to mind. Everyone had him winning every round practically and they gave it a draw!
You know it's coming when one judge has 97-93 to one fighter, and the second judge has it to The other fighter by the same score! A draw or loss is coming up for the deserved winner.
I think it's unanimous that if you see a split decision on a guys record you assume it was really close and could have gone either, so the Canelo/CJ Ross situation is basically profit-ganda...
And a lot of situations the draw works the same way. It's borderline sick to deny a fighting man a fair chance in the ring.
