David Haye set for BBBofC hearing over Tony Bellew comments

David Haye faces a hearing at the British Boxing Board of Control for threatening to "hospitalise" Tony Bellew.

The boxing authority will consider punishing Haye for his threatening comments after his heavyweight fight with British rival Bellew on Saturday.

BBBofC secretary Robert Smith told ESPN..

"We are obviously investigating his comments because it shouldn't have been said,"

"We [Haye and the Board] will get together after the fight. Saying you are putting people in hospital is totally unacceptable."

Haye, 36, could receive a fine for his comments and measures have been taken to ensure there is no further incident ahead of fight night.

The pair were due to meet at a press event in Liverpool on Monday with a steel fence separating them as a result of the increasing animosity between them.

The threat of a sanction from the BBBofC has done little to deter Haye, who has also promised to end WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew's career.

"I can guarantee you he's going to be retiring this year," Haye said.

"He won't be boxing after March 4, no way. Just like John Ruiz didn't box, just like Mark de Mori, just like Nikolai Valuev."

"There are a lot of fighters when I fight them they stay hit for ever and never fight again. He will be on that list of people I've sent into retirement."

They should shift their focus to dealing with shitty judges like IJL

Agree.

Haye's comment was similar to hundreds we have all heard over the years, but that judging....jesus. Even my missus said the 'other guy' (vargas) was winning easily.

It's the nature of the sport. Hayes comments might lack any class but I don't see how they can discipline him.

As Crusader says, they should get their own house in order and sort this dodgy officiating before we become a laughing stock. IJL should be made to sit infront of the board and explain his thought process and scoring on that whole fight.

So now haye cannot say what boxers have said throughout history of the sport.

But bellend can say what he likes?

This smacks of eddie getting upset that bellew is being overshadowed by haye and doesnt like it

Haye's comments listed above are not the whole story ,he's actually said worse over the last few days, including a comment to Gareth A Davies that he hoped when he caught Bellew there'd be a delay with the 'message' getting to his legs so that he could continue hitting him as hard as possible, and that Bellew would never be able to renew his licence after he'd finished him.

People on this particular thread can say what they like, but these comments are absolutely unacceptable. And the 'greats' down through the years did NOT make statements like this. When I mention 'greats' , I mean 'greats' . Robinson, Louis, Ali, Leonard etc.

Of course, also to blame in all this current trend with promoting PPV fights, is EVERYONE involved, who secretly HOPE for these type of confrontations. Eddie Hearn and SKY have responsibilities. Hearn has a licence too with the Board. I sincerely hope he too is called up to explain what steps he took to avoid the violence ( Whyte - Chisora) and the threats.

Yet guys like Duran and Morales were lauded for calling opponents faggots, maybe its only acceptable if your Central American

As mentioned above, its never nice but bad officiating is by far a more serious problem, it seems common place to have 1 horrendous card whenever a British fighter loses a world title fight

Spot on this.
It's not acceptable to say these things but he's goaded in to it. Everyone is played by Hearn/Sky etc. Everyone has a beef, everyone does a gloves are off with the ridiculous Nelson fella, everyone gets on twitter and starts arguments. BBBoC should well be looking at how these fights are promoted.

More unacceptable than saying you will eat your opponents children? Or fighting at every single face to face you have or trying to fight people after the bell like a chav?

The British board of control are fame junkies they try and jump on the band wagon with every headline grabbing topic yet do nothing to combat the real issues.

There's nothing wrong with scarring the crap out of your opponent by saying you are going to end his career in my opinion and quite frankly if Bellew doesn't want to get in the ring with someone who is legitimately looking to really hurt him within the rules of boxing then he should back out of the fight. Chat shit get banged - end of.

Haye isn't on about stamping on his head. He's on about beating the hell out of him using Queensbury rules. It may be considered distasteful or unsporting but I don't see how it is illegal in some way.

In the UFC a guy deliberately jumped on Bisbing while he was out cold and smashed him straight in the jaw, and in his post fight interview said he did it to remind him to keep his mouth shut in the future (with no consequence) Haye says he's going to hospitalise Bellew without any evidence that he is actually going to try it in the ring and the boar of control are already arranging a meeting (after the fight surprisingly) to no doubt try and milk him of some fees. It's pointless.

yeah, agreed, for anyone- the board included- to express prudish distaste for these antics, as though they are not part of the show, as if they are not built up and encouraged- is incredibly disingenuous. Camp Eddie's tiny little nubbin probably swells to the size of a little finger in its glorious tumescence every time this kind of #BEEF comes up.

Chatting sh*t is all part of promoting the fight. This fight has been sold purely on the basis of bad blood and nothing else as fundamentally it's a mismatch. Without the chat the fight wouldn't sell.

Furthermore, Bellew has hardly been the innocent party in all of this. He's repeatedly made reference to how bad a father Haye is, how Haye is skint and how Haye is a piece of sh*t etc. These personal insults are just as bad as Haye's comments if not worse.

Matchroom and sky made a press conference open to the public at 6pm on a Monday in Bellews home city.

What did they think would happen?

Yesterday was set up for the sole purpose of something eventful and distasteful to happen to milk a few more pounds out of the PPV.

Hearn should of been up before the board long ago. This pantomime stuff is embarrassing. Yesterday was a shameful moment for British boxing and it will happen every time they need to sell a PPV.

How can he face disciplinary for that? That's the sort of stuff boxers say all the time.

Yes, it's incredibly tedious. But I don't see how you can discipline somebody. This is the sort of thing promoters want, it's what they think sells fight. It's the sort of thing we've all got bored of years ago.

If you discipline this, you have to discipline every boxer who has ever spoken at a press conference ever.

This is a good point - previously the Board have said that they cannot act on anything unless they get a written complaint that they can then investigate.

I wonder who made the written complaint?

What Haye's been saying isn't 'chat' far from it.
Did Santa Cruz and Frampton engage in any of this nonsense to sell their fight?
Boxing is a tough business, and boxers are tough enough without spouting this nonsense.
The hardest man in the pub is usually the quiet guy in the corner, not the buffoons shouting their mouth off about what they're going to do.
Hearn has to watch his step here. At the end of the day he's a millionaire businessman who is indirectly encouraging this and is thereafter hiding behind Haye , Chisora and Whyte smirking at the outrage and rubbing his hands in glee. Every time it happens his respect within the wider sporting public is diminishing.
As a side issue , Bellew is saying things you'd expect from someone whose a fighter at heart whose being publicly ridiculed. But he's a boxer first and foremost, and respects the sport. Haye, I feel, from the stories I read , now and in the past, is different. He seems to me to be basically a nasty individual , self centred and arrogant. But like all bullies - a bottle merchant.
I've said it in another forum, and been ridiculed, if Bellew boxes clever and reaches the halfway stage, Haye'll bale out with an injury - not a sore toe- shoulder this time.

Bellew has been saying the same things and making personal comments, that is crossing the line.

Haye has been saying things you expect in a hype fight with 2 so called rivals, bellew is the one going below the belt

To be honest what does every one expect when you have in my opinion 2 of the biggest dick heads in boxing fighting.

I think Hearn needs to be stopped in his tracks, from organising pointless press conferences 1 week before the fight, with no other motive other than to incite fall out, that he hopes increases the pay per view figures.

Weird how when Eubank was talking shit like this everyone was hammering him for it but its ok for Haye?I dont have a problem with it,its part of selling a fighter and his fights but whats the difference here?
