With all the goings on over the last few months I was wondering whether we need another major promotor in the UK.

I am being very careful, obviously, not to mention any names here.

All our top fighters seem to be starved of world class fights. There is no question we have plenty of world class talent born of these shores but most of their careers so far don't flatter them.

If you compare the promotional situation in the states you'll find that there are literally dozens of promotors and many major ones with influence. I agree they are a bigger country with more fighters but still we seem to be lacking any healthy competition between promotors.

Thus our top fighters have very little choice in which to trust their careers to.

Don't know about you guys but I think this is a major issue with British boxing today and is a direct cause of us having few world champions today.

One last thought.....think about the floods of talent coming through the amatuers as we speak. What choices do they have when turning pro..??
Should they not be able to choose who they deal with and have as good a opportunities as any international boxer just turning pro.

As I have said elsewhere. It is fighters who make fights happen, promoters faciliate what they want. If two fighters want to get it on bad enough, and there's enough money on the table, chances are it will happen. Sometimes a promoter doesn't have the clout

I don't see much chance of many new promoters, it's a very very difficult business to get into, and extremely risky. We have seen just how hard it has been for Hennessey promotions to get TV coverage, to the extent that now they have none at all for the majority of their fighters.
