Eddie Hearn is planning to steer Tamworth-based veteran Don Broadhurst towards a shot at the world super-flyweight championship.
Aston Villa fan Broadhurst says he wants to challenge WBA champion Kal Yafai and according to Hearn, the 33-year-old could be only two wins away.
Broadhurst will box on the undercard when Yafai defends his world title in front of his home town crowd at the Barclaycard Arena on Saturday, May 13 – and they look to be on a collision course.
Hearn said:
“I would love to make the fight between Don and Kal, but I can't do it yet."
“Don is probably two good wins away from the fight."
“We need to get him a world ranking and maybe we can get him a shot at the WBA Intercontinental title on the next Birmingham show."
“If he wins that and defends it, then we could look at making the fight."
“That's definitely a fight I would like to make."
“That would be a massive fight in the Midlands."
Broadhurst prolonged his career by outpointing Louis '2 Sweet' Norman for the vacant English super-flyweight title last October in a real make-or-break fight and afterwards said he wants a big fight before hanging up his gloves.

Wonder if Ioka will push for the Ishida bout (Ishida is #1 ranked with the WBA and there hasn't been a mandatory since Concepcion beat Kono), Broadhurst Vs Yafai would be a joke barring several big wins for Broadhurt

This is a joke right?
Look I like Don but hes done nothing to earn a world title shot and in reality is closer to midlands area title level than a world title!
Shame it looks like matchroom are going to short change midlands fans for their Brum show again. Would have loved to see Eggington/Malinaggi headline the Brum bill but fast Eddie needed that for the poor Pay Per View Saturday

Broadhurst would be one of the worst world title challengers there's been

Can't believe his mentioned those two fighters in the same sentence. I wonder how many other English champs r 2 fights away from a world title fight.

I used to think Fast Car was alright. Had boxing at heart.
News like this makes me want to punish him with a claw hammer. Why make a fight like this unless it's all aboutbeasy defences and easy ticket sales.
Fast car you disgust me.

And he will point to World title fights on normal Sky Sports.

It's a seller in Brum no matter how you cut it, so I expect it to happen even if Eddie is in the mind of just to keep Kal busy.
Blues vs Villa as well which adds spice.
Thing with Don is he's had a lot of bad luck. That stinker on Sky with Haskins did not help him which was all to do with Haskins style. He then went to Oz, he had some personal grief and had to come back. He then had to rebuild his life, got injured. Broke a rib vs Ali. Was in a cracker vs Hakins in Prizefighter, and then another vs Norman #2.
The local thing sells it, and the fact that Don knows this is his last chance. Desire can bring something out of a man. Lets see how he gets through the next 2 before slagging the kid off. He is an ex-Commonwealth Gold Amateur remember. So he ain't no bum.

So, in other words, Hearn wants to do a PPV card from Villa Park.

Comm & British yes.
Either way, I'd like to see him winding down owning a Lonsdale outright before he retires.

I don't think anybody is saying he is a bum, but there is a broad spectrum between "not a bum" and "World title challenger".
I have said for years, the amount of British "World" champions who defend their titles against other British boxers is unbelievable - now that we have almost a champion at every weight this is likely to be even more common.

Says who?
Neither have massive followings, obviously (and rightfully so) Kal is now more of a wider draw but hes never had a great following just there to support him.
