Quillin and Andy Lee have fallen off the face of the earth.

Cotto and Canelo both fled back to 154.

BJS and Lemieux didn't have a single significant fight between the both of them in all of 2016.

Ishe Smith is the #11 MW in the world now according to BoxRec. Good lawd.

It's pretty bad, yeah. Are any of the unbeaten guys any good?

One of the reasons why i consider the GGG vs Jacobs fight the most important fight of the year so far, even more so than Garcia/Thurman, Klitschko/Joshua, or the possible Kovalev/Ward rematch, is because it's between the two legit best middleweights in the world.

The other divisions will still be a round robin of guys that can beat each other on any given day.

But if Jacobs can't do it, i don't see anyone else being able to pull off a win against Golovkin in that division.

The reason is - GGG. People are leaving the division or not moving up into it because of him.

Charlo is moving up to MW even though he probably doesn't have to. Who knows if we will fight GGG anytime soon, but it would seem inevitable if GGG stays at 160.

Canelo and Eubank haven't abandoned the 160lb division.

Andrade, Lara, Charlo Jr, other top JMWs are not moving up. Rubio, Murray, Eubank Jr fought at SMW. Canelo is f*cking around avoiding GGG.

P.S. Quillin was avoiding GGG for a long time, BJS is in hiding too.

It's not that bad, like a lot of divisions it's just waiting on the right fights getting made. GGG being head and shoulders above the rest doesn't really help the other guys look good either.

Golovkin and Jacobs are fighting in a couple of weeks. Khurtsidze will win the interim WBO title and fight Saunders. Andy Lee is coming back on the GGG undercard. Lemieux will have an exciting fight with Stevens and then hopefully get back in title contention. Canelo will almost certainly be at 160 after his next fight. Murray is dropping back down to MW to fight Rosado and may well stay there. Eubank Jr has said he will compete at 160 and 168. The better Charlo twin is moving up from 154. Derevyanchenko, Sulecki and Murata seem like good, undefeated prospects.

GGG, Jacobs, Canelo, Saunders, Eubank Jr, Lee, Murray, Lemieux, Khurtsidze, Charlo, Derevyanchenko, Sulecki and Murata. 13 good fighters there. Just need to get them active and fighting each other.

GGG ruined careers and showed us who all the cowards are - Total devastation and domination of a weight class - GGG is one of the greatest fighters in history and the most avoided champion of all time -

Who cares where Boxrec ranks anyone??? They have Santa Cruz at #7 P4P and he's been ducking Gary Russell for years... and they rank Russell 40th when he'd knock Santa Cruz out in 5 rounds and is willing to fight any of the top guys in the division.

on top there is GGG, Lemieaux, Jacobs and potential Charlo and Lara coming up. Canelo already is coming up in weight to face Chavez and surely will stay at middleweight and wont go down to 154. also aleem made a name for himself.

I agree. This is a huge fight and could end up being a classic. I expect GGG to win but Jacobs is a different kind of matchup than we are used seeing for GGG. I don't care how good of a chin GGG's got, he can't take the kind of shots Brook landed in this one. Jacobs can bang so it will be interesting if he can chisel away at GGG's armor and make him human. It COULD happen.

also for the first time (except maybe lemieaux) GGG will have somebody infront of him as big as strong as closley equal a puncher as he is. they physicly equal. jacobs is even taller and more athletic than GGG. will be very interresting fight. whoever wins this one is the 100 % true #1 middleweight. this is the best middleweight boxing the second best middleweight in the world 1 vs 2

I disagree. Danny's suspected chin can make it easy for Golovkin. Somebody like Canelo probably has better chances.

When Ishe Smith is ranked #11, it's an indication of a very thin division. Same thing at 140, most of the division moved up to 147 and now Tony DeMarco is ranked #10 even though he hasn't had a decent win in 5 years.

Do you think 154 is very thin too? Bundradge is at 4 there.....

Chris Eubank Jr. has not abandoned the middleweight division. His team even claim that they want a fight against GGG this year.

Billy Joe is in a unique position, whereby he holds a valuable commodity, which is the WBO belt. Therefore, he can command bigger paydays facing the likes of Canelo and Eubank Jr. than the $1.5m he claims he was offered for the Golovkin fight.

A little bit, but not as much because Bundrage has actually beaten someone decent in the last few years.

Right now I'd say 154 is in better shape than 160, but once Canelo and Charlo move up (and Eubank and Lee possibly return to 160) that probably won't be the case anymore.

Very lame arguments. I was trying to show that MW is more shallow than it should be due to big 154 lbers not moving up, MWs beaten by Golovkin or knowing that they would be beaten moving up and others losing motivation due to knowing that they are so much inferior to CPG. Your "arguments" are not contradicting my idea.

154 is just...odd...there's a lot of unproven guys there but a few proven veterans on the way out...the top guys don't seem to have separated themselves from the chasing pack

Yep, its hard to think of anyone who was feared as much since the times of Sonny Liston and Mike Tyson. Its the knockout specialists who cast the biggest shadow.

I really wish Andrade would get more active because he has the skills to give anyone a good fight at 154-160. I would be totally shocked if Canelo ever fights him.

Like I said who give a CRAP where boxrec ranks anyone??? They have Jim Jeffries ranked hundreds of slots down and have Heavyweights nobody ever heard of who beat NOBODY in their career ranked ahead of him on the all time ranking... Their rankings are more screwed than any I've ever seen.

How can you have Dominic Wade ranked ahead of Willie Monroe and Ishe Smith ranked 10 slots ahead of Rob Brant, who he couldn't beat in a million years???
