i think we can make a safe assumption as to what everyones favourite sport is during the olympics, but lets have your suggestions for the most naff/crap/boring/ridiculous or stupid. apparently theres 35 different sports to choose from

i cant stand the athletics, continually watching folk running round a track bores the nuts off me. similarly i think the womens gymnastics is stupid, whats the script with the ribbons and the ball? and i was truly gobsmacked to find that baseball is an olympic sport!!

strangely for some reason apart from the boxing i also quite enjoy the shooting events!

.. and of course the womens swimmin can have its moments. especially as how its an outdoor pool this year!!

i suppose that basketball falls into that category too. remeber a couple of games ago the yanks sent a team made up entierly of NBAs top players. how sporting!

I enjoy the rowing and boxing the most (because the're the sports I do myself) also weighlifting can be surprisingly dramatic and entertaining.

I agree with what's been said about tennis football and basketball, I think that a sport should only be in the Olympics if an Olympic gold medal is the top prize in that sport (boxings ok on that one obviously because amature boxing is a different sport).

In terms of ones i don't like watching I think badminton is pretty boring (not to take anything away from those competing.

It's so easy to name the crap. Shooting (don't they have clay pigeon shooting, what is that all about?), fencing, anything with horses and rowing. The winter olympics are even worse.

My favourites are 400m (my former event), the mens sprints (especially the relays), football (because of the age restrictions it's good for picking out decent young players), and of course, the obvious.

Oh, i almost forgot. I saw a little of the womens hockey, in my humble opinion it might be worth keeping an eye on the dutch team. I never saw any women like that when i went there.

yeah apparently the rspca went ballistic about the horses rowing events. said it was cruel on two counts a) there we no life belts big enough to fit them and b) it was unfair on them as the oars had to be superglued to their hooves!!

God damn it, i miss one comma and look what happens. It should be a sport though, it sure as hell beats the 10m air rifle competition.

The boxing so far has been a real bore, I watched the lightheavys and to be honest it was crap, the ref stopped the action for the slightest reason and did anybody see that Indian fella get stopped on a cut, it wasn’t even bleeding, and incidentally the fella who he boxed was some sort of favourite, and the Indian was more than holding his own and he was a rank outsider.
I can not see the sport gaining more fans on the showings so far..

Handball FFS I'm sure I used to play this at junior school!

And what's happened to Karate? Has Taekwondo replaced it or was it never there?

cant ever remeember karate but judo is still there, was watching it earlier today. british guys out. (you can tell my knowledge of judo is extensive eh!!)

These games i will be mostly watching beach volleyball. 8)

To be honest there is not really one event that I will turn off, although a whole match of Hockey can be dull.

What symbolises the Olympics for me is the Swimming, Athletics and Gymnastics. Neil, rhythmic gymnastics (the ones with the ball, hoop and ribbons) is a different sport.

I'll be watching every minute of the Athletics, the weight lifting when it starts getting to the big boys, Amir Khan, and Matthew Pinsent going for Gold #4.
Might watch Ian Thorpe against the American going for all the golds in the swimming. Maybe some mens gymnastics (Pommel Horse and Rings).

The rest I can live without.

Easily the 100 meters. It's the closest thing to a big fight: untold years of preparation boil down to 10 seconds. Hold your nerve and get it right, and your life changes forever. One split second mistake, and it's all over.

Shooting is great (too few events though). Boxing is crap, the guys are covered with helmets, the rounds only last 2 minutes and there are just four of them. Tyson would have clearly won against Williams if it was an Olympics HW bout. :)
