David Haye's borther-in-law, Elliot Worsell, who also wrote his biography 'Making Haye' (an excellent read by the way) has penned an interesting article ahead of this weekend's big fight.

I've always enjoyed reading Elliot's work (see also his interview with Adam Booth in this week's Boxing News). His articles are not only well-written, but always offer insight and strip hype right back.

Not saying anything I don't already think, mind. We all know how cynical this game is, and this fight is a example of that.

Really doesn't seem like two minutes since Elliot was quite literally a kid on ESB going by the moniker GITR. His talent was obvious.

A good article, although slightly patronising in tone and rather conceited. But what does shine through is the typical cynicism of any hard core obsessive fan who has loved and lived boxing from a young age..... and who is thoroughly disillusioned even though he can't escape the addiction. Like a crackhead who can't stay away from the pipe even though he hates it...

Makabu didn't move his head when he was hurt, while Bellew stood square for stretches without reply. Unless Haye's badly hurt, he'll never be that static; never allow that sort of squaring to go unpunished.

And I disagree about money being the be-all and end-all. At the top level, yeah — it's the driving force for the majority. But almost all of those guys fought for next-to-nothing for a few years as they built up their records. You might end up craving and chasing money, but to suggest that boxers forgo the uncertainty and risk of the small halls is — barring a few exceptions — a bit disrespectful in my opinion.

It's a decent read, but in all honesty I'm more intrigued by what's clearly gone down between him and Haye. They used to be super-tight, but something has clearly caused a rift judging by the tone of that article. Have I missed something?

Smoke and mirrors sums it up nicely. How many times have we all be drawn in by a fighter saying how great he feels and how he's going to win in style only for them to lose. It's all about the PPV. I too wonder what's gone on between them as I do with him and Booth.
