Whats next for Tony Bellew?
Posted: 07 Mar 2017, 01:33
So last saturday night WBC cruiserweight champ tony bellew beat former WBA heavyweight champion david haye by 11th rd stoppage after haye picked up a inury in 6th round that slowed him down and bellew took over the fight and beat the former champion.
people are saying it was luck and it probaly was but the fact bellew was still there after 6rds after being a big favourite to be knocked out in 1-3 rds by haye is the reason i gave him some respect for the win because he proved the people and Haye wrong and even if Haye would of not got the injury and would of went on to win bellew still would of have that.
but now many fans are speculating whats gonna happen now with bellew? here are some things he can do next in his carrear.
Move back down to Cruiserweight and defend against the Breidis - Huck winner? -
tony bellew as the WBC crusierweight champ still has a mandotary obligation to meet and face the winner of the interim WBC title between top contender Mairis Breidis and former WBO cruiserweight champ Marco Huck on april 1st.
Bellew will have to face the winner of that fight or be stripped of his title after already getting a bye by the WBC to move to heavyweight and fight haye.
REMATCH WITH DAVID HAYE? - we all know the fight ended on saturday with controversy because of hayes injury so people are saying if haye decides to continue his carrear after his recent surgery after that fight on saturday he should get a rematch with bellew.
i think david haye is not the fighter he was he never had the best 12 rd engine in his prime so now after all these injurys he has he cant go deep into a fight anymore without something going out on him.
i think if they had a rematch and if Haye didn't manage again to knock bellew out early he would more than likely re injure something if that his shoulder his knee or his Achilles because David along with the shoulder and now the Achilles he has problems with his knee in the past so i think david hayes days of fighting in 12 rd competitive fights are over even if you do think he was beating bellew on saturday his body still gave out on him half way in.
FIGHT FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE? now Bellew has beaten haye who was a highly ranked contender at heavyweight (even though he fought guys who might aswell of had no arms) but he still was highly ranked now hes beaten haye his promoter Eddie Hearn says he could face WBC heavyweight champion deontay wilder or WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in his next fight.
according to Hearn he says Deontay wilder's team have been i contact over the possible fight and Joseph Parker's team has aswell Joseph Parker has even said if he beats Hughie fury on may 6th hell be open to face Bellew later on in the year at the 02 Arena in london.
i think if bellew does decide to take a massive challenge and fight for a world title he should stay away from wilder let his fellow British fighter and stable mate IBF heavyweight champion face wilder because wilder is too tall for him reach is so much bigger and he carrys a right hand that could knock a wall down.
his best bet is to face joseph parker because he is basically the same height as Bellew and has slight reach advantage by about 2 inches where as wilder has a 10 inch reach advanatage so i think if bellew wants to do that and cash out win lose or draw his best bet is Joseph Parker in London late 2017.
RETIREMENT? - Bellew is saying the fight game now is taking alot out of him now and hes only fought on from winning the world title so he could make some good money to secure his familys future because he said if he was just boxing for himself he would of retired after beating makabu to become champion.
but he says securing his familys future is driving him on to still fight but after saturday night and the big amount of money he made he says he's more than comfortable financially and hes not a greedy man.
so if he did choose not to fight on i dont think he would have any regrets in manys peoples eyes hes over achieved because only a few years people were saying bellew will only ever be a domestic level fighter and hes achieved more than that.
