BBBofC: Tyson Fury will NOT be making boxing return in May - ‘He hasn’t contacted us. He’s still suspended’

The British Boxing Board of Control have cast doubt on Tyson Fury’s hopes of making a return to the ring in May, confirming to talkSPORT that the 28-year-old is still suspended from the sport.
Fury announced on Monday his intension to return from a 15-month exile on May 13, and suggested he had struck a deal with allegedly by name-checking the promoter on social media.
The undefeated heavyweight has not boxed since his world title victory over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, and has since suffered a steady decline away from the ring.
The 28-year-old vacated his WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles in October last year to focus on his struggle against depression, and then saw his licence suspended by the BBBofC "pending further investigation into anti-doping and medical issues" later that month.
Fury has vowed to return to the ring this year after a "nightmare 2016", with a bout with WBC champion Deontay Wilder reportedly on the cards.
But, when asked whether he will be allowed back in the ring in May, BBBofC general secretary Robert Smith told talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams: “No, Tyson Fury is suspended.
“Tyson Fury has a lot of issues he needs to deal with before he even thinks about getting in the ring properly.”
“He has anti-doping issues and other medical issues which all have to be considered.”
“But as we sit here today, Tyson Fury is suspended.”
“We haven’t had any contact with him since he was suspended. I would expect if he’s looking to box shortly, he will need to contact us. He hasn’t done so and therefore nothing has changed. He’s not in the position to box.”
“What we’re more concerned about is that he looks after himself and gets himself in a fit and proper state of mind to carry on with his career, if he does.”
Meanwhile, promoter W4rren has suggested Fury COULD resolve his suspension in time, although admitted to talkSPORT: “There are a lot of hurdles to get over first.”

So you think it's a good idea that a fighter with known mental health and other issues, should be cleared to box.
Fury needs to get his head straight, sort out his addiction issues, and get into proper mental fighting shape before he returns to the ring.

If he's fit to box, why not?
Too many fans think they're some sort of boxing overseers.

Exactly. Thinking too deep into what he eats, sniffs

or what his mind state is is just pathetic.
If Tyson wants to get fit and box then let it be, he'll toy with anyone if he's fit

Really? Or are the fans just forming their opinions based on what the proper authority in this country is saying, who are experts, in possession of all the facts and have real experience.

So what exactly is the difference between the BBBoC and MBC/BIBA?

So he says he's getting an Irish license.

Boards of controls are in place to protect the boxers from themselves, and they are doing exactly the right thing at the moment.
If Fury wants his license back then he has to go through the right channels; and if he is healthy in mind and body, as well as sorting the doping issues, then he will get his license.
Going around the process to commissions that potentially give licenses to people who aren't fit / healthy isn't the way to go, and sets a very poor precedent by one of the best known figures in UK boxing. (should a UK promoter go this route, then I think the BBBoC should review their promoter license)
Health comes before entertainment.

Yeah, I mean, obviously you know better than a board appointed to oversee the safety of the fighters it licenses, what with your extensive experience and that.

I'm sure it will get resolved one way or another if Frank and his people are on the case.

Why are you all suddenly seeing the BBBofC as some sort of benign force interested in boxer's health? Literally every week they let some hardened pro bash a Latvian binman. Fury probably owes them money. No bother, he'll go around them. He's bigger than some self-appointed officials.

Latvian binmen who as far as they are aware, are fit to fight, and have the appropriate documentation.
If you can't see the inherent problem in having people who have been declared to have serious mental health problems fighting, then there's probably not much point discussing it.

If fury was granted an Irish licence can the BBBOC refuse to sanction a fight in their territory?

The BBBoC allow fake boxers into this country with fake records and Bulgarian boxers with records that cannot be veryfied (allegedly). so who cares.

Interesting that BBBoC steam straight in with public comment on Fury's return to the ring, especially after Fury said he would use a licence from another Board. However, with the footage of a BBBoC licenced trainer, Shane McGuigan, seemingly punching a fan whilst returning to the changing room, there is no comment or public reaction.
