I might actually buy this PPV

Haven't bought a boxing PPV since Canelo/Lara but this is actually very enticing. You've got:

1) Golovkin vs. Jacobs (#1 vs. #2 MWs in the world)
2) Gonzo vs. Rungviasi (#1 at 115, debatably #1 P4P, against maybe his 2nd or 3rd toughest opponent ever)
3) Cuadras vs. Carmona (an elite 115er against a solid-looking B-level contender)

And the PPV is only $65 which is actually cheaper than UFC PPVs and a far cry from the madness that was $100 for Floyd/Pac.

Free here in the UK, 2am! Add Usyk and it would be well worth it. But I understand, those 3 fights were enough.

Yeah... pretty decent card. I really like Cuadras. This kid is the goods. Wouldn't mind seeing a Gonzo/Cuadras rematch at some point.

How is that?

Are most fights free to watch in the UK? Is there a PPV system at all?

I know you guys have to pay taxes just for having the TV, but does that get you all the fights as well?

Might not be a reason to move on its own, but it could certainly be the start of a list. :D

Yea Gonzo/Cuadras II would be good, but I really hope we get Gonzo/Inoue or Gonzo/Estrada II instead.

Generally speaking PPV fights are usually made up of at least one British fighter. So the last few PPV's in the UK have been Bellew/Haye, Joshua/Molina, Brook/GGG, Frampton/Quigg. It has to be a pretty big international dust up to go PPV. The last one being Mayweather/Pacqiauo. I suspect GGG/Canelo would be PPV, but not GGG/Jacobs.

That’s a truly horrendous price to pay.

We don't pay taxes for having a TV, aside from VAT when purchasing. You may mean a television license, but that is to fund the BBC. Having a broadcasting news channel not dependent on advertising or funding through other streams (and being accountable to them) is well worth the money.
Boxing isn't on the BBC. You have to buy a Sky or Virgin subscription to get sports channels. It can add up to a fair amount. I think I was paying £70 a month for broadband, telephone line, sports and films - plus the £12 a month licensing fee.

PPV here is about £15, and almost exclusively involves a British fighter. They're getting more common these days. When it comes to international fights from America, they're rarely PPV.
There's not enough of us to stay up till 5am to bother with.

Definitely Gonzo/Inoue is the fight to make. But, I thought Cuadras had a tremendous showing against Gonzo. The 117-111 card was waaay off. I thought Cuadras was the better boxer and had reduced Gonzo into a plodding stalker in the latter half of the bout. I thought Gonzo showed great fortitude to pull that win out. A rematch is a pickem. And I can see Cuadras beating Inoue.

Not ppv but not exactly free either - need to pay the broadcaster's monthly subscription fee.

Yeah, but I'm assuming that is similar in the States? The only free to air boxing I can think of was when Haye knocked over a few tin cans on Dave...

Well it's not PPV, but it's not free either, its just a £12 monthly subscription with Box-Nation.. But i've got one of those boxes where I got channels free.

You could hit a bar that might be playing it?

I was just doing some research on Roman's opponent. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai looks to have an impressive record at first glance. However, his last two opponents were making their pro boxing debuts. His two opponents before that were 12-19 and 3-5. It looks like the only real name opponent he has faced is Cuadras, and he lost that one.

It's probably because I am a bit unschooled at weights this low, but aren't there better opponents for RG in this division?

There are better opponents, but Rungvisai is a very solid challenger. He's ranked #7 by BoxRec and #4 by The Ring.

I'll be getting this PPV regardless. However, I just don't see what makes this guy such a solid contender. Granted, I have not seen him fight, that I remember. But his list of opponents within the past two years is beyond bad. Imagine the backlash Golovkin would get if he defended against a guy whose last 4 opponents had a combined record of 15-24 and two of which it was their pro debuts.

Guess I just need to watch him fight. I'll look up his fight with Cuadras I spose. But, my thoughts at the moment are they wanted to match him up with someone he would be sure to shine against since he had a rough showing in his last bout. And this guy is ranked and has an eye catching record. But it is against below sub par competition. I am not questioning Gonzo's ability. He is one of the best. But this matchup is not.

Well, don't get me wrong, the talent depth at 115 is going to be a little thin, so a guy ranked #4 there probably won't be as good as the #4 guy at welterweight or featherweight.

You have to sift through his record a bit because Thai fighters tend to fight a dozen cab drivers a year, but KOing Sato for the WBC belt a few years ago was a very legit win, and I think the KO of Salgado in 2015 was a solid win as well. Plus he only lost to Cuadras by a couple of rounds.

Compare him to Arroyo, who when he faced Gonzo he had beaten 100% anonymous opponents and his lone claims to fame were some amateur success and a close loss to Ruenroeng.

Well, I bought the PPV, and it was definitely worth it. The first fight was kinda junk but I didn't expect anything from it so it wasn't much of a disappointment. The first half of Cuadras/Carmona was not very interesting but the 2nd half had some solid action. And of course the last 2 fights were edge of your seat type stuff. So even though I only buy one PPV every few years now, I do not regret this one.

I bought it too. No complaints, though that was more than UFC for me, glad I didn't miss the war and the main was a solid fight too.
