Shannon 'The Cannon' Briggs will fight Fres Oquendo for the vacant WBA 'regular' title on June 3.

The two-time heavyweight champion confirmed the fight - likely to be held in Hard Rock Hollywood in Florida - on his social media accounts on Thursday and insisted Oquendo "must fall".

Briggs, 45, said ahead of the David Haye-Tony Bellew bout last month that he was "looking forward to making history".

"A three-time world heavyweight champion in three different decades - and I'll be the oldest heavyweight to win a world title as well. I can't wait," he said.

Fight is getting closer and closer.

Cool. I'll be there at the Hard Rock if it happens. I wonder if it will be televised.

Depressing in as much as it's billed for a totally crap meaningless title, but I don't tend to take much notice of these nonsense titles. As a match neither of these guys is going to fill the likes of Wilder and Joshua with dread, but I can see either of them beating the other and that's what makes it interesting to me.

If Briggs doesn't dispose of him early, this could be one of the worst fights in boxing history.

And Briggs ain't even that far of a possible 4rth decade. I hope he can get his fight with Klitschko after and the winner of that fight can fight the winner of Wilder vs the latest bum Wilder fights before this.

Despite the deserved criticism, I am still intrigued by this match. Oquendo is underrated as 5 of his 7 losses have been by debatable decisions. If he can survive Briggs' early onslaught he might be able to box away the rust and win a decision or late stoppage. Let's go champ!

Whatever these two do, I find it hard to fathom that 'fight' will be an apt description.
