Coming up Grant was a solid prospect. He was moved at the right pace. He gradually stepped up his competition on his way to an eliminator with Andrew Golota. He went from beating solid journeymen & a fringe contender to one of the greatest of all time. When he came back a year later he broke his ankle vs McCline & was out another year. He was never the same as he could not recapture that fire to compete at the top level. His disaster vs Guinn sealed his fate as a potential contender. He got 5 million to fight Lewis & he never got motivated again. He was a pretty solid prospect coming up & he didn't have some bloated record. His team put him in with good fighters & solid journeymen along the way but the financial comfort followed by the bad injury zapped him of his motivation.

Yeah but you see what happened when he really stepped it up in competition? Wilder is tall, clumsy, and dangly exactly like Micheal Grant but

he's ducking and dodging so well no fighter will ever have the chance the expose him. Ortiz will make Wilder look very clumsy and Wilder is aware.

Wilder is nothing like Grant... Grant was much bigger and stronger, but very slow and clumsy. He had no ability at all and was taken out by McCline, Guinn, etc.. He managed to stop plodding punch bag Andrew Golota and that was probably his peak fight.. Lewis knew Grant was no good, and went right after him the way he went after Golota and Ruddock.. They were all big, slow, clumsy MFers who couldn't get out of their own way.

Wilder is very athletic and fast and has some good skills... Gerald Washington is another big, tall guy, but with a pretty fair athleticism and decent speed, who's a lot bigger than Wilder -- but no skills or defense and a little stiff -- because Washington either doesn't have enough fights or good enough coaching to have learned anything.. Wilder only had to wait for a KO shot, which Washington was going to give him very soon.. Grant was more like David Price -- real stiff, slow, with an immobile head, very readable punches, and very easily out-boxed and ripped with head punches.
