Froch vs GGG (when it was first mooted)

Finally Golovkin gets a tough test. After watching it I reconsidered the talked about Froch vs Golovkin match and I think Carl would take it by being far too long and strong for Golovkin. I'm basing this on saturdays fight exposing some weaknesses that Golovkins previous level of competition has not been able to get at.

How do you see it?

Always thought GGG was all wrong for Froch and was glad when Carl confirmed his retirement (although I miss him). Would've been a cracker while it lasted and you can never write Carl off.

I'm putting Saturday down to a combination of a bad day at the office for GGG and Jacobs boxing out of his skin. A rematch has to happen. The first fight left a lot of questions that need answered.

I always thought Carl would be too big for GGG. Carl was a big super middle and GGG a small middle. Pound for pound I think GGG is better but it's not a P4P match

I always thought that too but I was shocked by the lack of urgency in Golovkin. He just couldn't trade with Jacobs. He boxed intelligently but seeing him wincing and crouching with the bodyshots was something new. Jacobs is the best he's fought as a pro. Ward would have UD'd him too I reckon.

I agree, G looked tiny against Jacobs, he'd be dwarfed by Froch, he should stay away from SW. That said if the fight was to happen now I'd favour G as Froch hasn't fought for 3 years.

I'm talking back when Carl retired rather than take the fight. I wish he had now, although I was glad he didn't at the time.

Ward would've been a step to far yeah mate. Froch would've been a shoot out I think. GGG looked tiny compared to Jacobs on Saturday.

Froch is a hard man and you would have to favour froch just on the sheer size difference of them both, froch would box him long and on the end of his jab but he loves a tear up froch but it's all what if etc etc

It's a fight I wanted to see. I thought it was very winnable for Froch. GGG is definitely the better skilled but the size difference would be a huge leveller.

I think they'd both have their chins tested. It would have been a war!

Stylistically Jacobs is very different than Froch, and he's far faster and more mobile; can you imagine Froch darting around the ring like that?

It would be a different type of fight, although it's always been one that I think Froch would have a great shot of winning. He'd have a very big size advantage and I think would be able to take GGG's shots and force him to the backfoot or into a defensive shell (GGG doesn't counter much when attacked), where Golovkin isn't nearly as effective.

He should fight George Groves. Just so we get GGG Vs GG

Froch doesn't have the defence and IMO no chin, not even Carls can stand up to that level of puncher with out a sufficient degree of defence (Carl could defend when he wanted to, but he doesn't have the mobility of Jacob for instance)

I think he would have had his successes and it would have been entertaining but GGG wins

Better technical boxer better puncher and the "too big too strong" line is nonsense, he's only a weight class up

I would have picked Saturday nights GGG to dig out a narrow win, when it first was mooted, I'd back GGG to leave Carl looking like he'd been in a car wreck

Let's not forget, if GGG has faded a little, then he was a different proposition 3 years ago

Golovkin wins a competitive decision imo. Froch wasn't the type to box anything like Jacobs did at the weekend - he was disciplined against Abraham but we all know that Abraham and Golovkin are different animals. Also got to consider that the Golovkin we saw on Saturday is probably past his prime now, around 2013/2014 he was even better. Froch would obviously have the big physical advantages but I don't think his power would seriously trouble Golovkin, so I'd back GGG to use his superb jab to find his range (I think it'd suit him to fight slightly more up close than usual, inside Froch's long arms) and land his shorter, technically cleaner shots.

Golovkin would be a level above in a G4G contest

I'm sure the poll three years ago had Carl in a very distant second place.

Quagmire from the Family Guy could be the ring announcer

Because most people on here don't have a clue what they are talking about.

There was a guy who used to post, Ikoravev or something, who used to argue that GGG would smash everyone to pieces and told me to shut up when I put the case across that Froch could beat Golovkin, and that Froch had a proven solid resume that put GGG's to shame. "I have eyes" was his argument.

I wonder where he went.

A poll from a previous thread. I had to vote to see the results as I obviously hadn't voted at the time, so I voted for a draw so as not to skew the results.

Not many people giving Carl a chance there.

Froch doesn't have 2 of 3 tools that Jacobs used against GGG, handspeed and footspeed. Size alone inst enough.

Just goes to show you that you are only as good as your last fight. In other words boxing fans suffer from severe form of amnesia, they cant remember anything past last fight.
