I think GGG should be fighting at least 3 times/year. In 2016 he fought 2 times against poor opposition (Wade and Brook) and he didn't look so sharp and powerful as we expected to see against Jacobs.

2016 was useless for Golovkin -- only two fights, both against opponents posing no danger. Thanks to Canelo, BJS and Eubank Jr

Of course, it wasn't helpful.

Last year aside he's always been one of the more active champions to be fair. It's getting to the stage now that's he's running out of opponents. BJS, Canelo (if he wants it) and Jacobs rematch is all that's left for him at middle. He's too small for SMW.

I'm not jumping on the band wagon and saying he's on the slide. He might well be but personally I think it's a bit premature to suggest that but you can definitely map out the last few fights of his career from here.

Charlo could be a good test if he comes up and gets a decent win or two at middle.

Just a note: that was the first time Golovkin fought 12 rounds and it was twice as many minutes as in the two 2016 fights. Yes, he was somewhat rusty.

Golovkin wasted a lot of time in fake negotiations with eubank canelo and saunders - it probably was intentionally done to screw Golovkin and cheat GGG out of valuable time - boxing is a dirty corrupt business -

K2 procrastinated with the GGG-Jacobs’ negotiations, because one minute they’re lobbying the WBA to order immediate purse bid (before the contract negotiation deadline), to force Danny to be in a position to only receive a 25% share, due to the fact they didn’t want to pay the New York native’s requested purse split.

When Jacobs asked the WBA to increase his entitled purse split from 25% to 40%, they declined and chose to stick to their rules, but the Haymon-handled fighter refused to withdraw from the fight anyway.

Finally, when it was clear that one of Haymon’s promoters would go head-to-head with K2 for the purse bid for the right to televise and promote the GGG-Jacobs fight, Loeffler relented, deciding to avoid the purse bid process altogether and finally gave Danny the 40% of the total purse that he originally requested two months or so prior.

And Loeffler only did this, because he knew that Golovkin would have been forced to vacate his WBA “Super” world title due to HBO refusing to allow GGG to have his fights televised by a rival TV network, had K2 lost the purse bid.

True.

He wanted to fight Jacobs in December, but Jacobs made him wait another THREE MONTHS until March.

Yeah , it's some kind of conspiracy from these promoters to let GGG aging and stay inactive. They may know something about fighters with similar styles as GGG.

GGG should stay busy no matter what.

I wouldn't call Brook poor oppostion, though I'll agree he didn't pose much of a threat to GGG. His speed and boxing skills make him arguably the 2nd best opponent of GGG's career to date.
