The Ring Magazine is the biggest joke

first they had a non boxer (ronda rousey) as the front cover. why? it is a boxing magazine, ronda is no boxer
now they have andre "i dont want no rematch" ward as boxing's best boxer, the new p4p number 1
and to make no sense at all, they still have roman in it and not the guy who won against roman
so one time they respect official judging descision by having ward as the winner against kovalev therefore having ward infront of kovalev. even so most say kovalev won and now they disrespect the official descision by having the loser roman over the winner thai guy in the p4p list, makes 0 sense.
the most stupiest thing is, the guy who beat roman doesnt even make the top 10

. so the thai guy wins against ring mags previous p4p number 1 and what is his reward? nothing, being out of the top 10, this is the reward for beating ring magazine p4p best fighter, great logic

no. roman was 1, now after the loss he is 4 and the thai guy in nowhere. if the editor judge before the fight, than roman would have stayed where he was at the top spot, but him falling to 4 means that something happened and that was the loss.

Re, the whole Rousey thing putting my personal opinions aside about her. It was a smart move by the ring to try and get some MMA athletes and news into their magazine. There's a lot of crossover between fans plus it could bring in a new fan base for them to sell to. People seem to forget that the ring used to cover wrestling as well.

At some point you should stop paying for this 'joke'.

You're quite right but you can't wonder at people forgetting that. Wrestling (as part of Ring Magazine) was a thing of the past when I bought my first copy end of 1971/ beginning of 72 so you're going back a while.

Canelo Alvarez is the Ring champ at middleweight even though his last fight was at super welterweight. The reason why (which has been discussed on this forum before) is that Canelo is signed by Oscar De La Hoya who also owns Ring Magazine. Even though Golovkin just beat Jacobs, Alvarez is still Ring middleweight champion.
After Thurman defeated Garcia, they moved Thurman to No. 1 at welterweight. Their welterweight championship is vacant. They rate Manny Pacquiao No. 4. in spite of the fact that Pacquiao defeated Tim Bradley and Jessie Vargas in his last two fights. BoxRec rates Pacquiao No. 1 at welterweight and No. 2 pound for pound.
Ring Magazine claims to have won 11 awards for editorial excellence. The awards are given by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). The president of the BWAA is Joseph Santoliquito who is a former editor of the magazine and currently writes for it.
Their decision to put Ronda Rousey on the cover is laughable. Next to Rousey on the cover was written "She Conquered MMA. Is Boxing Next?" Rousey cannot box well and this was proven in her last two fights. It would have been better having Holly Holm on the cover and they could have done an article on how female boxers are making the transition to MMA.
Roman Gonzalez is rated No. 3 at junior bantamweight, but is also rated No. 4 pound for pound. The boxer from Thailand named Rungvisai is not on the pound for pound list, but is rated ahead of Gonzalez at No. 2 in the junior bantamweight division. It makes no sense.

They even got Deontay Wilder above Povetkin, Ortiz, Parker, AJ and Pulev, I can't take ring magazine serious any more either.

Anthony Joshua at No. 5 is too low in my opinion. Tyson Fury is still the Ring heavyweight champ. Fury has not fought in over a year.

Wilder over Povetkin is obviously correct.

Yes I agree Wilder should be above him in the rankings by virtue of his green belt. Whether or not he'd beat Povetkin is another question entirely. I'm still in mourning for the loss of that fight, it would have had huge significance.

The good ole days.
Are for the previous quote. Rhonda Rousey in skin tights at a photo shoot. On the beach in a bikini would be nice. As for fisticuffs MMA stuff why bother. Some of those MMA chicks are hot.

So did I, esp when young - when did it stop publishing?
The ring is irrelevant now, despite its very nice Belt....

Sometime in the early 2000's.... sometime after the Tyson-Lewis fight I believe....

I think they're going by official, but I do think, since I thought (and several others) Kovalev won that fight, he should go right next to Ward. I actually agree with that.

Still essential reading as far as I'm concerned and their ratings are the most credible out there. Subjectivity is the lifeblood of debate though....

but they are contradicting themselves.
if the ring only goes by official descisions than ward is over kovalev cause he won and the thai guy is over roman cause he won, right?
but the ring have ward over kovalev and roman over wangek. makes no sense.

There rankings are questionable, but the way they administer their belt is better than all alphabets. Personally, I used to like the IBO rankings, but haven't at them for a while.
I don't read the magazine.

Ring has Rungvisai No.2 and Gonzalez No. 3 when they are rated in the division. Ring has Gonzalez rated No. 4 pound for pound and Rungvisai not rated at all pound for pound. Ring rates Rungvisai ahead of Gonzalez for division ratings, so Ring is following the results of the fight when they rate boxers within the division. For pound for pound, it seems they are going by who they felt won the fight and so they keep Gonzalez rated on their pound for pound list and do not rate Rungvisai as if he did not really deserve to win in their opinion.
Ward defeated Kovalev by decision and Ring rates Ward ahead of Kovalev in their division. The pound for pound ratings currently have Ward No. 1 and Kovalev No. 2, so Ward is ahead of Kovalev on the P4P list as well. Ring is not being consistent. If they are supposed to consider the official decisions in their ratings, then Rungvisai should be ahead of Gonzalez on the P4P list
or Rungvisai should be rated and they can remove Gonzalez from the P4P list
or not rate Rungvisai and Gonzalez on the P4P list.

They also may feel that Roman is fighting above his weight class. That's valid for a p4p ranking.

He was at minimumweight and light flyweight most of his career. He won the flyweight title in 2014 and his last two fights were at super flyweight. Maybe he would be better suited for flyweight, but I just think that division ratings should be considered in the P4P ratings.

I honestly couldn't care less how anyone wants to do p4p.
