"Porter Hopes Pacquiao Retires, Says Khan Has Skills To Beat Anyone"
May 20th was the last date mentioned for a possible welterweight showdown between WBO champion Manny Pacquiao and British superstar Amir Khan.
Last month, the former sparring partners took to their verified Twitter accounts to confirm that a deal had been reached to face each other, but when investors in the UAE failed to come up with the $38 million that was promised to stage the event - the fight fell apart.
Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, had recently stated that WBO/WBC super lightweight champion Terence Crawford and former four-division champion Adrien Broner bring more to the table than Khan - which makes the likelihood of Pacquiao-Khan coming to fruition very remote.
If the fight were to come together, former welterweight champion Shawn Porter believes that it would be a tough fight for Pacquiao.
"I heard the fight was canceled but if that fight happens I think it would be a good fight," said Porter. "Amir has what it takes to beat anyone. He has the speed and the range. It's just a matter of him not getting caught."
"I don't know who wins (a Pacquiao-Khan fight). Honesty, I thought Manny was done [when he retired last April]. I would like Manny to be done, I really would," Porter told BS.com.
