Hearn's Idea of Matchmaking

Much talk in mainstream media of Crolla moving up and fighting Ricky Burns.
While this may make sense to Eddie Hearn (Crolla seems to be a big ticket seller, possibly due to Mancunians seeking a new generation Ricky Hatton) it is insulting to Burns. What possible legitimacy is there with Crolla having no light welter credentials and Burns being a world titleholder (double belt holder if he defeats Indongo)?
It's crap like this, along with Sky's house-fighter cheerleading, that annoys me.

Burns has done really well to ressurrect his career after looking finished as a top fighter. His credentials re good, and if someone deserves a big pay day it's him. I'm not sure crolla is really big enough to generate the pay day. If he is, then I have no problem burns fighting him

Let's see how Ricky does with Indongo first.

DarkDestroyer...you're right there...but talk of Crolla-Burns seems almost pre emptive of Burns losing to Indongo and looking for a big money comeback option. Insulting to Burns from his own promotional team.

Crolla-Burns was talked about widely a few years ago, it isn't necessarily a new matchup. I also don't think it is planned on the back of Burns losing, it is a much bigger fight if it is an all British title fight.
Crolla isn't a LWW by any means, but at the same time Burns isn't exactly big at that weight either.
I personally don't like the fight that much, and still think Crolla has business at Lightweight - whether that be Flanagan or the IBF route.

1. Does It Make Money?
a) Yes! (go to 3)
b) No! (go to 2)
2. Can I Engineer Some Bad Blood out of Nowhere?
a) Yes - Put it on PPV (got to 3)
b) No - Take digs at the non-Matchroom fighter on IFL and say it's their fault/they're scared/Nobody has heard of them.
3. Should I Bother With A Reasonable Undercard?
a) No
b) Seriously, No, but call it "Stacked" anyway.

Its make sense Crolla can't beat any of the champions @ 135 except Flaningan (maybe) and no one seems to want to make that fight so its makes perfect sense. If Burns beat Indongo of course he's not going to rematch Crawford so again it makes sense.

I'd still favour Burns over Crolla. Would be a decent fight. If Burns unifies though he'll have better options available to him than Crolla.

The first point relates to the fact it's called prizefighting. If nobody wants to buy tickets to watch you fight and nobody is bothered about watching you on tv then you can't really moan about people not being too keen to fight you.
If Hearn says nobody has heard of Flanagan and Burns does better business for Crolla after a pretty tough run he's right isn't he?

I agree, but i'd rather see Burns face crolla than rematch Crawford. I think Burns would beat Crolla in a hearty old dust-up. If Burns fights Crawford again he won't land a glove on him but will take a real beating too this time.

As far as Burns' interests go; I don't see a problem with it.
If Crolla isn't good enough at light welterweight then he'll lose and Burns gets a nice payday and perhaps an easy night's work.
If Crolla is good enough then he's justified the matchmaking and hopefully it's a good fight.
What is Burns meant to be doing after fighting Indongo? Rematching Terence Crawford?

Broner in the US. Crawford has said he wants the winner. Crawford of Broner in Vegas are bigger fights.

Yip. Him or Broner. Both have shown an interest and Burns has always wanted to fight in Vegas so either of them fights would be a good earner for him.

Crawford-Burns 2 isn't a bigger fight. Nobody wants to see that again. Broner I give you that one but only in the UK. In the US Broner would get killed for what people would perceived as another Broner tune up.

Broner over here or in the US is bigger than Crolla. I like Crolla, I'm a fan but you're being a bit too kind to him. If Burns loses against Indongo then Crolla makes sense.

I'd much prefer the Broner fight. He could actually win that.
The big advantage of the proposed Crolla fight is that he'd probably win and maybe get to fight one of these guys afterwards as well.

I think the Crolla fight would be a decent contest but having heard him talk recently I just think he'll want to go to the US. Broner over here would be good to see. I'd favour Broner but depends what Broner turns up.
Crawford would whip Burns but it's a unification and a massive challenge. You can only take your hat off to him if he chose that option. We live in a time where the elite fighters all duck each other so while it would be in massive struggle it would be refreshing to see.
Has to get this Indongo character out the way first though.

Broner-Burns or Burns-Crawford 2 doesn't even sell 5k in the USA. There's not many drawers in the US. Crawford in Omaha. But for a rematch for a fight nobody claiming for no good. HBO wouldn't even buy Crawford-Burns 2. Broner-Porter didn't sell that well (8k) in Vegas or even Maidana so Burns is going to sell

From Burns perspective Broner and Crawford are far bigger. If they can't get the money they want over the water then it's up to Hearn to bring em here.
All due respect to Crolla but he's coming off two defeats at the weight class below. Broner is a big draw and Crawford is one of the p4p best. There's no comparison. Crolla would be a decent fight but it's not something I see Burns going for.
