Unbeaten heavyweight contender Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs) will return to the ring to take on Long Island’s Derric Rossy (31-12, 15 KOs) in a 10-round showdown Saturday, April 22 in a Premier Boxing Champions event live from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

Also competing in undercard action is four-division world champion Amanda “Real Deal” Serrano (31-1-1, 23 KOs) who will look to make history by becoming the first woman and the first Puerto Rican fighter to win a fifth world title in five different weight classes. Both the Ortiz vs. Rossy and Serrano bouts were announced at a press conference in New York City on Thursday.

SHOWTIME Boxing coverage of the Ortiz vs. Rossy and Serrano bouts will be announced in the coming days.

The April 22 event is headlined by former world champions Andre Berto and Shawn Porter battling in a welterweight world title eliminator. Televised coverage of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, begins at 9 p.m.

43% for Rossy ... Seriously ???

I wouldn't reproach Ortiz for the choice of opponent, it's a short-notice keep busy type fight but I really don't see it as competitive.

And people complain about Wilder's opposition.

It isn't a good fight by any means, but it is happening this month and on an under card. It isn't really getting in the way of Ortiz getting a bigger fight as that'd take a few months to build anyway. Probably won't be watching, mind.

BTW is there some weird shadow effect on Amanda Serrano's right arm that makes it look so... weird?

If Ortiz was making his 6th defence of a world title where none of the previous defences were against top ten opposition, then your criticism would have some validity.

But he isn't and it doesn't.

Rossy isn't good enough to be an interesting Ortiz opponent, but he's a decent heavyweight. It's a shame that he doesn't get more opportunities against fighters he might beat, like Price, Wawrzyk, Mansour, Gjergjaj, etc..

They've completely thrown away Luis Ortiz's chances for his best performances. He's already showing signs that he's not what he was a few years ago, and more and more it's becoming clear he's not going to get a shot at a meaningful fight until he's probably not good enough to take advantage anymore.

This is a waste of time, and the sand is running out of Ortiz's hourglass.

I agree but as much as we fight-fans might be interested how does a win over Wawrzyk or Rossy propel the other on to greater things? As entertaining as it might be it probably wouldn't make much money and thus probably be of little interest to a promoter I would think.

Well I guess it keeps him ticking over so better than no fight at al,l but I agree your main point and I think it's a crying shame. If the WBC or any of the other governing bodies were fit purpose, instead of a despicable bunch of self-serving arseholes, then Wilder would have defended against Ortiz instead of whichever hapless chump was his last mandatory or the one before.

Their absence of integrity - all of them, not particularly the WBC - make me sick to my stomach.

I would think the people picking Rossy are doing so as a joke. It is April Fool's Day after all. Don't take sh*t too seriously today.

I voted Rossy for just that reason. Ortiz is an overrated hype job, but obviously he's got enough to get past Rossy. That's why they picked him after all.

This fight already shows the lack of knowledge of people in the heavyweight division. Rossy is the only boxer who lost a match against Stiverne in the past 3 years or so. In reality, Rossy was obviously better as Stiverne, but the judges gave Stiverne the win while they shouldn't have :s.

Anyway, no heavyweight dares to fight Ortiz, so it's not his fould.

Actually 29 heavyweights have already "dared" to fight him, and Derrick Rossy will be somewhere between his second and fourth best opponent.

Ffs Ortiz is keeping busy against a top 50 opponent. He doesn't need to justify his choice. He's not the sodding Heavyweight champion of the world fighting his sixth sub-standard patsy in what might laughably described as a title defence, while loudly proclaiming his intention to unify the title to anyone gullible enough to listen.

If you really don't see any difference then your brain cells must be extremely lonely.

Wilder has been seeking a big fight for years but Wlad, Fury and Josh have not been available and Povetkin can not pass a drug test.
