"Loeffler: Canelo Makes More With GGG Than He Did Mayweather"
Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who handle IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), says Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) would make more money by staging a fight with GGG than with anyone else.
He feels Canelo would make even more than he gained back in 2013, in his showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. - which generated 2.2 million pay-per-view buys.
"I do not like to negotiate through the press. [Canelo's promoter] Oscar [De La Hoya] likes to talk a lot and he says a fight against Canelo would be the most lucrative fight for Golovkin, but it would also be the most lucrative for Canelo. He would earn more money by facing GGG, than he did when he fought against Mayweather," Loeffler told ESPN Deportes.
"The reality is, this is a fight that is good for both parties and it's very good for boxing," Loeffler said.
'I keep in touch with Eric Gomez, the President of Golden Boy Promotions. We even spoke on Thursday afternoon. We are trying to do everything on our side, so that this fight becomes reality and we continue to believe that September would be a good date for that event. Canelo, we know, has a very tough commitment in that fight against Chavez."
Our priority is the fight against Canelo and we will continue negotiating to try to finalize it, because this is the biggest fight that can be made at the moment."
