Frampton Wants Credible Opponent for Next Fight

It appears that an announcement could soon be forthcoming in relation to a return to the ring for Carl Frampton.
The announcement is expected to confirm that Frampton will fight in Belfast in either July or August.
However, who he’ll be fighting remains a secret.
With talk of a third fight with Leo Santa Cruz ended after the Mexican was ordered to defend his WBA belt against Abner Mares and with Lee Selby being ordered to defend his IBF belt against Jonathan Victor Barros, Frampton is still seeking an opponent.
But, it seems that Frampton will not step into the ring with a fighter described as a ”mug” with Frampton remarking to the media,
'It needs to be a big fight and that's what it will be.
'It doesn't need to be a world title fight but I can't fight a mug - it needs to be a credible opponent and a few names are in the hat.'

Selby is a free agent. If it's anyone other than him I'll be surprised.

Selby has been ordered by the IBF to defend his title against Jonathan Barros, so I would be equally as suprised if it was Selby.
But money often talks.

I would like to see a rematch with Quigg.
The last six rounds of their first fight was pretty even so I'd like to see what Quigg can do with decent advice and a sound chin.
I have a feeling Frampton has a few extra gears over Quigg although the LSC rematch showed Carl to be wanting in some areas too.

He probably has a gray area there since Barros got pulled by a commission for that very fight. He's chagaev.

Was thinking that. That twat shouldn't get in the road of a super fight for Selby. He had his chance and fukked it. Selby should be allowed a voluntary. It's not as if it's a diddy fight anyway. Frampton is a proper fight.

I think Barros was reordered by the IBF last week, after his 'health issue' was cleared up...so I don't expect another voluntary to be allowed. Selby's last mandatory was Eric Hunter in April 2016, and the IBF rarely like to go a year without a mandatory - just look at Fury etc, which is a great shame given the opportunities available.

If a fighter has the hep would he be cleared to fight, I thought it was transferable and stayed with you for the rest of your life

Different varieties, I think C is the most dangerous. Barros had one of them.

Selby would be an amazing fight, would definitely go see him fight Josh Warrington if it happened here in the north or in Northern Ireland, admittedly so would any of the UK boxers listed. But at the same time would you risk a big domestic clash so soon after he's lost a world title fight ?
I'll say Barros would be the ideal choice of the one's listed, former world champion and contender (WBA featherweight & fought for IBF Super Featherweight), a veteran who's stayed active in Argentina since his last loss in 2012 and the only person who's actually stopped him is the current WBC lightweight champion (Mikey Garcia - 36W 30KO), add in a little domestic pride and heated history between the UK and Argentina and you've got a great comeback fight for Frampton.

Selby would surely be worth the risk as its for a world title and it was a fight Carl showed interest in before he rematched LSC. Barros seems to be the only top ranked feather without a fight already slated so he could well be in the mix and it would be a great fight for Frampton to keep his name in the mix, He really does need to keep ticking over against high profile names at this point in his career as I don't think he'll be around for a long time now, I think he wants 2 or 3 more big fights then perhaps he'll call it a day.

I completely agree with you, Selby Vs. Frampton would be brilliant for both men. Selby to establish himself firmly in and against the world level and Frampton to get back into the mix with a real impact if he won.
But I'm thinking of that 'IF', Why would he take a big pay day now with a big risk when he could have a bigger one if he builds himself up more with a comeback run first ? Like you said, Barros has no fight lined up so it's good for both men and if Selby, Warrington or Quigg keep on their current run going then it'll just build the eventual payday as their careers wind down.

Frampton should be careful but quick in his pursuit, he's got the potential to have an immense resume when he hangs up his gloves, I for one hope he doesn't blow it all, Selby, Quigg rematch, LSC rematch, it's all there.

If I'm Team Frampton if lining up a 'easy' fight until Selby or Santa Cruz become free.
Why risk a tough fight with huge paydays on the horizon.
Find someone with a name but over the hill and little pop.

Someone young, hungry and a bit dangerous like the late Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, who gave Frampton the scare and the workout he could learn from.

Frampton is nearly 30 or maybe has just turned 30. He's fresh for his age if that makes sense

Similar to Froch. It's go hard or just hang em up at this stage. The big fights are there. Take them and then move on to the next one.

True, but there is always going to be an element of risk in this sport and I honestly think the decider with LSC will still be there even if Carl lost to Selby. In fact unless Frampton regresses hugely (which I don't see at this point) a 3rd bout with LSC will practically always be there as its unfinished business, Quigg probably feels the same way and will always hanker after a rematch with Carl. Frampton has stated that he only wants big fights now, which is great for us fans, so it would have to be Barros at the very least next. I still think now is the time to fight Selby for some reason but then thats from a fans perspective, McGuigan may disagree! I just hope these fights can be made and politics doesn't get in the way
