So listening to Hearns latest IFl interview he really hammered home that Wlad v AJ is the biggest fight in British boxing history.

I'm not saying he is right or wrong just curious what people's thoughts are. I would still consider Benn v Eubank rematch close because of the amount of views that got on ITV. I would still say Froch v Groves rematch because of the build up and animosity to me felt like a bigger fight.

If Wlad was lineal champion and unbeaten in 11 years like he was going into the Fury fight. Then I certainly would not argue.

So are people in agreement with Eddie that Wlad v AJ is the biggest fight in British boxing history ?

If it isn't what is ?

How do you define British boxing history? Hatton vs Mayweather will go down in British boxing history as the biggest fight in this era- but it took place in Vegas.
However, in my lifetime the biggest fight between 2 British fighters being staged here was Benn vs Eubank- far more interest than there is in this.

Accrding to Carl Froch he sold out Wembley.

Tyson vs Bruno and Tyson vs Lewis were huge

I was only a kid and had no interest in boxing but I still remember the buzz before the first Bruno vs Tyson fight

Eubank vs Benn is the best British boxing rivalry of my time. Always world titles being contested so top level too. Froch vs groves was also good in this catergory

Honeyghan vs Curry is the best British boxing win

Lewis vs Tyson, Hatton vs Mayweather and a Froch can Groves are the biggest events. Lewis vs Tyson should be discounted as while it was great money, Tyson was long finished. Hatton fight was really big, Froch fight already described.

Even then was not a stadium fight but the no1 p4p fighter in the world coming to the UK must has been a big deal then.

PR is better these days. Just imagine how big those 90s fights would be with todays social media and PR machines. They were huge in the day when when if something controversial happened on an evening, you never found out until the morning papers. Now its instant.

Don't get me wrong I am really looking forward to this fight very much but its hard to call it the biggest in boxing history when one man lost his last fight and the others best win is possibly Dillian Whyte (or perm any 1 from 3). Its undoubtedly a great occasion and the money generated may well make it the biggest grossing fight but in terms of the fight only, then no.

Not going to profess to know what the biggest (best) is but what one has achieved and what the other has done recently I can't have it with that title.

Lewis vs Bruno was pretty big.

I think Eddie's point is that it's the biggest fight because of the attendance. What strikes me about the fight is the lack of animosity, trash talking etc. All they had to was make the fight and hey presto. Welcome to the heavyweight world

Can't believe no one has mentioned Lewis v Bruno, "the battle of Britain" ! it was on the week before Benn v Eubank 2 and from what I can remember the entire country was talking about it, can remember sky sports stopping regular folk on a highstreet to ask their opinions on the fight and everybody had something to say about it

I've often wondered how much money Tyson would make per fight in this age. He'd make Mayweather look like an undercard attraction and the likes of McGregor and co would be complete bums in comparison.

Then again, there wasn't as many viewing options back then. Certainly not in the UK. It was mainly 4 channels, that's why Benn Eubank got millions and millions of viewers.

Yeah I remember that! Walking through an east end market I believe and you had little old dears saying stuff like 'Heart says Bruno but head says Lewis!'

There are way more Bigger fights in British boxing history for goodness sake. Fast car does talk some absolute s hit at times.

Was thinking this morning this doesn't seem to have as much hype around it two weeks out that I thought it would. TBH I heard more non boxing fans talking about Haye Bellew than I have this

still think Hatton v kosta and calzaghe v lacy were bigger regardless of attendance. Sky don't mention klitscho is 42ish, has not won a fight in 2 years and the last time he did fight he got a boxing lesson in his old back yard. The fights I mentioned were much more compelling and boxing fans were definitely looking forward to them more than this.

The second Cooper-Ali fight was huge.

You had the most famous sportsman in the world against Britains sporting sweetheart.
Throw in terrestrial TV and the Heavyweight championship of the world (when it really meant something) and you have a winner.

Other big fights- Hagler v minter, Mcguigan v pedroza and I'm sure Robinson v Turpin must've been huge

It's is a 'big' event in British boxing, but we don't yet know how important it will be when looking back. When we look back in 10/15 years time, it is only then will that we truly be able to judge how important it was in the historical landscape of British boxing.

Benn vs Eubank was what turned me into a lifelong boxing fan. How many will still be here after AJ has gone?

It shows how far prize fighting has developed in the last ten years that this is being talked about as the biggest fight and is being contested infront of 90k people. Hatton Tzsyu was a bigger fight and better contest and that was at the M.E.N....

I disagree- back in the day fights were on terrestrial telly- there were limited channels and everybody had to watch the same stuff. People got their news from the newspapers in which there were really only about 5 ot 6 main titles that everybody read. They would all cover big fights.

Now with social media folk are exposed to far more variety and it is far far easier to avoid things you arent that interested in.
