World boxing history challenge week 16 - Mike McCallum at 154lb

There was a request for Mike McCallum fights, so I've opted to showcase his light-middleweight days (fornicate all y'all, I'm not calling it SWW)
I've seen many of his fights at Middleweight, yet some believe he was at his best at 154lb, so I'm interested to test the theory.
The McCrory, Curry and Jackson fights were all big wins so they'll all be shown on the supplementaries. But I've decided to start with his first world title win. Sean Mannion was the only man in his LMW reign to take him the distance, it was the first time two female judges score a World Title Fight & McCallum became first Jamaican world champion. So there's plenty of history there, I don't think many will have seen it and going by the scorecards it looks like it might be a good showcase for Mike at his finest

Is it a good fight?
I reckoned it would be one most people haven't seen.
Just watched the Jackson fight again, I think this is the only 154lb McCallum fight I've seen.
Bloody good fight, brave approach from Mike and a clinic in forcing a stoppage. Once he has Jackson hurt, he's clinical

I found a really clear copy of the Jackson fight the other week, no commentary but who needs that.
The Braxton fight is worth a watch, he's clinical in that and a sweet victory for him once he split with the Kronk camp.

No, it's a blowout. Mccrory is a real good fight. Shows a little of what Mike would be infor if he faced the hitman.

Bullshit vacant alphabet fight for a ridiculously vacated title. Even as big as Boxing was then, these were two unknowns to most.

It's a fight I'd always meant to get around to watching. Seen a couple of rounds but you've put me off

It's not awful, just an outclassed, gutsy, fighter. I'd need money to rewatch it, but it's ok for a first viewing. Mannion deserves it.

You misunderstand, he deserves to be recognized. This just isn't among the top thousands of fights I'd tell someone to watch. Clint Jackson/Frank Fletcher is an unknown epic. Have you seen caveman Lee/John LoCicero? That is clearly superior to Hagler/Hearns.

Great concept from davie, but ho-hum choices for the regulars here. I can watch McCallum dominate many fighters.

To be fair i think the choices are fine for the concept, introducing people to certain fights/certain fighter i a a certain period. I wouldn't expect barnburner after barnburner, the choices for Mike at 154 at world level are limited to about 5 or 6 anyway aren't they? Jackson and McCrory are musts, add one or two more you're done

The original concept was Horses over on the UK forum. It was aimed at the less knowledgeable among us. A lot of us never had a huge historical knowledge so you could show the more famous bouts. I could have got away with just showing McCallum vs Toney, Kalambay and Watson/Graham/Collins over there with the probability most wouldn't have seen it
It's harder on here, we're dealing with a lot more posters who have seen more boxing, know more of the history. Then we have guys like myself, still learning.
Someone requests someone like McCallum, I've got the dilemma, if I choose his very best fights everyone's seen them, if I pick the more obscure ones....well they're obscure for a reason, either the fight is one sided and the opponent's guff or the fights as dull as poo.
I opted for him in his pre-160 days because I felt his middleweight career was better known.
I selected some of his better known 154lb fights and thought the Mannion fight was something a little more left field, perhaps not the best fight, but a one sided affair can showcase the better fighters skills and there's a good chance I'm showing something most won't have seen.
But I probably need top mix up the featured fighter a bit too and go for slightly more obscure lesser known (less watched) fighters. Suggestions like above are ideal.
Another point worth noting, is that this isn't always about just showing wars and the very best fights, it's about seeing something we haven't watched before, fights with a historical significance, for educational purposes, learning a bit more about greats of yesteryear.
Of course I'm aware that there are a few on here that don't need that as they've seen just about every bloody fight that's every had view-able footage. But for me and some others, there's plenty from Guys like Archie Moore and Mike McCallum I haven't seen, there's some of the little guys from the far east that I haven't watched in a single bout where as some guys have a wealth of knowledge. It's difficult to capture everyone
I had thought about showing a couple Dick Tiger fights next week. Not sure how many have seen a lot of his fights. Any thoughts?

You're doing fine, I'm just old and bitter. Watch Lee/locicero immediately if you haven't seen it.
