Nurse defending his British Super Lightweight title on the Langford card this Saturday , I'm starting to grow on Nurse he's coming off some good fights against Jenkins twice and Coyle last time, although i'll admit it was more the oppositions style that made the fights exciting but better than the snoozers he was becoming known for

Hughes is a solid challenger, I had him losing to Catterall wide but he done enough to make the rounds close, he had a tendency to start rounds off fast then slow down allowing the rounds to slip away, he's big on the left hand as I know he has a much shorter right arm but he didn't throw the right at all against Catterall, he's never gonna beat Nurse with one hand so he'll have to bring that into play if he's to stand a chance, single shots against Nurse's style wont work

Nurse does have a tendency to leave himself open with they low hands and get tagged and decked, his chins solid enough but a few times the knockdowns have made fights closer than they should've been, he would've beat Ryan for the Commonwealth had he not been put down by jabs in the 1st 2 rounds and Coyle had him down with a jab too

Nurse's quality wins this for me though, Hughes will do enough to make it competitive but he hasn't the height, reach or quality to win IMO

Hughes has something wrong with his arm doesn't he? Ones shorter than the other. As HoS says, he's a solid little guy and was competitive enough against Catterall despite losing. Nurse will box his head off though. I think Nurse is probably ready to move up from domestic level now going off his last few fights. He's looking a lot more rounded and accomplished recently.

He could move on to euro level but it wouldn't really do him any harm hanging around domestically as there's some good lads at 140.

Who's the euro champ at 140?

Gotta be said, despite a lack of competition for Crawford, this division has potential to be extremely exciting!

I thought Nurse would get the Lonsdale for keeps if he beats Hughes but apparently not as his challengers weren't mandatory??

BTW I'm not actually quoting Tyrone Nurse there, I'm just thinking it'd be a funny thing for him to say given the circumstances with the Lonsdale belt in this particular fight.

Yeah this is actually one of the few times I've seen a guy like Crawford have a stranglehold on the division. Usually 140 pounds is one of the strongest and most competitive divisions in the sport.

I like nurse, think he's improved a lot and plays his part in some good fights.

I had it 115-114 Hughes, I thought my card might have been wider before I tallied it up but Nurse picked up a few of the later rounds to close the gap, right from the 1st bell Nurse fought the wrong fight, choosing to stand in the pocket, saving Hughes doing a lot of work to get inside, I'm sure Hughes would've been surprised that Nurse stood his ground from the beginning, I'm not sure why Nurse never used his legs, the occasions when he had space was when he was successful, fair play to Hughes though he took full advantage getting right on Nurse's chest and winging in the hooks and uppercuts with plenty success, I thought Hughes jab was excellent too but he never had to use it too much as Nurse let him in close without much fight but the occasions he did use it it was impressive

Cant argue with the draw but thought Hughes put the more effort in

I had a bit of money on Joe hughes as well. Would you call it a robbery as I didn't get a chance to catch it live?

Nah I wouldn't call it a robbery as there were a couple of rounds in the middle that I could've gave to Nurse but just edged them to Hughes

I have not seen the fight as I am away and will catch up on everything later in the week.

However I have seen that this fight was a draw.

Joe Hughes should be getting A LOT of plaudits for this.

Whilst sky are hyping up frauds like Ohaha Davies who sh@t it from Nurse at purse bids to defend his toy belt against a past it lightweight. Joe Hughes who has a disability stepped up to face Tyrone Nurse and from what I see ran him close.

Not watched it back but on the night i thought Hughes did enough to win. Was sat by a load of his fans though so could have been swayed slightly close fight

Joe Hughes is a hell of a fighter.

Ok just want to come back to you when his career ends being at higher level than either Hughes or Nurse. He looking for bigger fights than those guys right now. Why neither Nurse or Hugher will get beyond Brittish level.

Either way there's far too much ducking n diving going on domestically in this division so massive credit and respect too Hughes who challenged the title holder with his disability when others including Davies chose to avoid when mandated.

He was poor v Scarpa which is his only half decent win. He didn't even get out of second gear against what looked like a one dimensional opponent there for him to look good against.

People like Joe Hughes should be getting the credit a true inspiration IMO. He stepped in with Nurse when Ohara Davies would not.

Ohara didn't take the Nurse because he was scared or anything. If Ohara gets a world title or at least fight will be hgher level than anything Nurse or Hughes. So clearly Hearn sees something there that isn't seen in Nurse or Hughes.

I thought Hughes nicked it, it's the worst I've seen Nurse fight for a long time. He was getting tagged a lot, he's not hard to hit at all which is weird as he has some slick moves but then just gets lazy switches off and gets tagged cleanly. Let's have it right though, Catterall beat Hughes in a fairly boring fight so if Nurse has any ambitions beyond British class then he really should have done the same and got a clear points win.

Nurse has ability but no real power and not that hard to tag, can't see him doing anything at world level unless very carefully guided. With Warren he could still end up with a WBO belt though.
