How is he now after the ill thought out sparring session? Has he made a second full recovery? (Hopefully)

Nowhere near recovered yet,unfortunately.
He`s still in quite a bad way,sedated and unable to vocalize or interact much.
Had part of his skull removed which was re-attached recently,going to be a long road to recovery of sorts.

Sad to hear that. Appreciate the update though!

Sad to hear that news, but at least he is on the road to recovery and hopefully he'll soon be leading a happy and healthy life when he does recover.

He was extremely fortunate to make it through the first time....and then this

Terrible situation isn't it,made so much worse as he really is one of the nice-guys,not just in Boxing but life too.
He`s fairly local to me,and one of the few success stories from his area.
Really hope he recovers with all of his faculties and personality intact.

A second concussion is severe, it's often fatal in fact. Hopefully he will be okay.

I don't know who allowed him to spar after the initial injury he suffered, but as somebody already mentioned they should be banned from any participation in the sport at any level immediately.

I met Nick Blackwell in Wales, he was there for the Williams Cocoran card.

He was really polite and came across a really nice chap. I asked him how he was doing and he said really well, I told him he was looking really well and it was great to see so I'm really sad to hear this latest news.

Really hope he makes a decent recovery . Such a sad story

Glad he is recovering, but still very sad to see him compared to how he was post Eubank.

I don't think they were, at least not the guy he sparred.

In fairness, I have heard he spoke very little English and may not have been aware of the danger his opponent faced. Whilst it goes without saying that what happened was horrendous there is a huge element here of Blackwell taking a massive risk with his own wellbeing.

It's amazing that it was Nick that ended up this way and not Dan, Dan being a journeyman. I once watched Langford beat the shit out of Dan in sparring. Hard way too earn a living that.

I hope Blackwell makes an improved recovery but frankly the poor lad does not look great in the two pictures used in the article. He looks exactly what he is - someone who has suffered two bad brain injuries. Silly bloody lad, he'd got away with it and looked to not be outwardly affected too badly after the initial injury.

Yes.

Obviously, I want the man to recover, but you've got to point out that he also shoulders a large portion of the blame.

The light heavy he was sparring got a 6 month ban.

Yeh I agree, his eyes look different and he just has that look about him now of someone with brain damage, whereas after the first one he looked like he'd made a good recovery and 'got away with it' to a large extent.

It probably was that sort of thinking in his own mind that made him think he'd be fine sparring again, without realising the gravity of the injury he had sustained and what risks he was taking with his health. He should have been counting his blessings but he's been young and daft I suppose.

Really a damn shame that somebody wasn't there to look out for Nick. These guys (the trainer and the sparring partner) were probably young and stupid and didn't realize something could go so wrong either, but they should've known better. Somebody coming off a serious brain injury...me personally, I'd never ever spar that guy, I wouldn't want it on me if I hurt him, same deal if I was the trainer. "If you're sparring it ain't gonna be here man. Not in my gym"...that's what he should've been told. That's what he needed to hear.

Whole thing is a damn shame.

He seemed fine, verbally & physically, after the Eubank fight coma. This time he seems gone. The whole thing is beyond my comprehension. Why Blackwell thought it was a good idea, why any boxer or trainer would cooperate with him in his deranged plan. That window of normality he enjoyed will not return.

can't of been a local gym to him surely people wouldn't of let him spar??

Zero tolerance, in my opinion. No matter what.

Even if it wasn't there intention to hurt Blackwell. We should set an example, make sure this sort of accident doesn't happen again.
