Birmingham can't be overrated as nobody rates it!
Liverpools got a good fighting tradition and churns out a lot of good fighters. Been a while since we've had a really good scouser though
To answer the question I'm not sure really, the rated cities to produce fighters so it's pretty accurate imo

Glasgow always gets tagged a fighting city. Maybe gang fighting but boxing has been slow in Glasgow recently. Some right hardy areas but it's the same as anywhere else I suppose.

Initial reaction is Liverpool. Not that it doesn't produce decent fighters, especially of late, but the way it's somehow forged a reputation as a true heavyweight in the fight game. It's no Mecca of boxing.
Dublin and Ireland in general really. Seen as a real powerhouse of a fighting nation for some reason. In both cases I think it's a case of self styled title. Convince enough people that you are then maybe you start being referred to as? 'Fightin Irish'? Not really
London? It has a great boxing tradition and has produced lots of good fighters. It's fvcking massive though so should do really!

In terms of fighting Irish, look at our population and compare it to the amount of olympic medals we have won in boxing. Dublin cannot be classed in this. There are very few big professional cards. Eddie has only done one in Dublin, which was a rubbish card with Macklin headlining and getting stopped.
All I can say is wait until Kate Taylor headlines later this year in Dublin. You will see Dublin properly, especially if Eddie gets Andy Lee a decent fight on the undercard in the co-main event.

For example, London has a similar population to Ireland, yet there's been more boxing world champions from London than Ireland. There's also been more Olympic medalists and gold medalists from London than Ireland.

Not sure why ? Lack of facilities ? Demographics ?
I remember when I used to do athletics at school the Birmingham kids were utter beasts ! obviously no one pushed them the way of boxing!
In the same way Sheffield boxing is held in such high esteem, largely down (but not exclusively ) to Brendan Ingle and his gym . One wonders what would have happened if Birmingham had its own Ingle Gym or Champs Camp.

They are not considered boxing hotbeds so you can`t really say they are over rated, however in terms of their size, they are massively under represented in boxing not just recently but historically.
Leeds and Bristol. Leeds is the 4th biggest city I think followed by Bristol.

Dublin is a sleeping giant for boxing. Dunne was Euro level and got a massive following. Liverpool has a tradition of being a big boxing city but it doesn't support it's fighters. Taylor is ireland will be an immediate sellout. Mcgregor has more following him to Vegas than the smiths have watching them on there doorstep. Manchester supports in fairness. Glasgow good. Belfast great. Aj in London total gold. Leeds and Sheffield seem like sound boxing cities

Every city is shite if you've got a mixed city card. For example, if you've got any Welsh on the card, you will generally see a load of pissed up Welsh pissing in the toilet sinks. If you've got any travellers, you will see gangs of white shirted travellers causing fekcin havoc. Brum, Liverpool, London etc.. you will see the arena empty between rounds so everybody can sniff another line of coke, and blow a massive cloud with their 90's camcorder sized vape. If everybody is singing from the same sheet, for example a Burns fight a few years back, then you can feel the atmosphere though the TV.

1-London
2-Birmingham
3-Manchester
4-Newcastle
5-Sheffield
6-Liverpool
7-Leeds
So Leeds is actually 7th,8th if you want to include Glasgow from a British perspective.
Edit-I take this back.i have just read about half a dozen lists and they are all different.leeds is higher in one than greater Manchester and I have no idea why Newcastle is so high in the one one I wrote out.
Bristol is over 500k anyway and that wasn't in there.
Regards Liverpool they produced a genuine world class boxer in John conteh,guys like Paul Hodkinson and then an absolute shedload of domestic and euro fighters.its just fashionable to slate it.
Belfast deserves its reputation though as a fighting city.
