I see former world title challenger, heavyweight Michael Grant fought last night in Poland having his first fight in over 2 and half years but getting knocked out in 2 rounds against Krzysztof Zimnoch. Zimnoch beat Oliver McCall a few years back over 8 rounds

Now 22-1 but not sure what this guys potential is.

Really? That's a shock...... seems like so long ago he was a prospect...... h must be 50 years old surely

It's such a shame when guys like him just seem content to be walking punchbags for hire.

I could sort of understand if he was always at that level, but he isn't, he was once a big prospect who fought for a world title, so he's tasted the big time but now this?

Yea he always had shortcomings but could punch and had bags of heart.

Noticed this on the schedule the other day. Had to do a double take. I remember watching him when I was still in school! He's 45 I think. Younger than I thought he was.

It's easy to forget how huge the buzz about Michael Grant was. He was seen at the time as the future of heavyweight boxing, the uncrowned king, the embodiment of the media's image of the futuristic, perfectly-sculpted superheavyweight. The general opinion was that he would outlast and knockout Lennox Lewis, who was 34 and had underwhelmed in his two fights with the ancient Holyfield.

It's always useful to remember Michael Grant when predicting big things for heavyweight stars who have yet to be tested.

That being said, Grant accumulated a fine selection of A and B level scalps: Andrew Golota, Al Cole, Lou Savarese, David Izon, Obed Sullivan, Ray Anis, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Lionel Butler. And plenty of names avoided him, including Shannon Briggs.

He is 44 which shocked me too. I assumed he had to be older as the Lewis fight was 17 years ago!

I am embarrassed to admit I thought he may prove to be the real deal. Lot of AJ similarities, potentially.

He certainly did look the part! And he had some heart too.

Mischief: if he had fought Wladimir Klitschko circa 1999/2000, Grant would have knocked him out.

Think Grant still has an awesome physique. At least, he did a couple of years ago. That can fool some people.

Can't believe he's still going ...

The Lewis loss was brutal ...but we already knew he was very vulnerable because Golota nearly KO'd him in the first round I seem to recall

He was better than he often gets credit for these days. I think he would've done well against the likes of Stiverne, Breazeale, Hammer, etc...

I remember when he fought Lewis. I was working as the Casino Host on the Carnival Destiny - the worlds first 100,000+ tonnes cruise ship. It kept breaking down so we'd have time off here & there. Which was great

Anyway, I did a sweepstake among the staff. $20 per entry & there are 27 outcomes. You pay the Score then pick a random piece of paper from a hat. I was doing round by round commentary from the Sports Bar with my mic. If I remember rightly the Cruise Director won.

I still thought Grant could come back strongly after Lewis but I think he f*cked up his ankle in his next bout & had to build back up before running into Dominic Guinn who THEN became the next American hope. And then that fizzled out.

Richard Steele found him in a McDonalds queue. He was, I believe, a basketball player at the time of his discovery.

Anyone who watched the Golota fight would have seen that Grant was basically a good athlete but not a real talented boxer. Therefore by the time 'The Land of The Giants' PPV came against Lewis, a destruction was expected.

No amount of revisionism to boost Lewis' legacy will change that.

With him being a good athlete he might've done well if he was born in this era.

Because most heavyweights have really declined in their conditioning.

There was a huge body of opinion that had Michael Grant the winner. It's not a revisionist history, it's simply fact. Lewis's legacy is good enough without anyone needing to boost the Grant win.
