Its funny how when fighters have a voluntary defense, they tend to pick someone that's ranked from 10 to 15..

He should have just gave Ruiz a rematch, since there was disputes

Cojanu is awful....probably the worst of the ranked fighters by a good margin.
He managed only a SD against this 5'10" , 12-22 journeyman last year:



Before that he was KTFO by Dominic Dennis, and needed a 'draw breaker' round to beat some clubfighter in Boxino. Im not just record browsing either; watch him fight and youll quickly see how bad he is.

By current HW standards, that's exactly what is needed

Cojanu sucks.

He's been chosen because he's the easiest and cheapest option.

Breazeale said he's willing, but he presents a risk for the mediocre Parker. Someone like Whyte would make for a more interesting fight.

It's okay. I guess there weren't too many WBO Top 15 opponents available (or willing) to accept the fight at such short notice.
At least it prevents the fight card from being cancelled and keeps Parker active.
Should be an easy win for Parker and then he can move on to bigger fights in the future.

Did you read a post right before yours? Breazeale was ready to fight on the same date, and I am sure a few other better opponents would be available.

No I didn't but maybe Cojanu agreed to the fight before Breazeale responded (if he was asked).
Be fair, Breazeale lost a bid for the IBF title last year. Cojanu hasn't had a title shot before
Anyway, I don't think the fight has been officially confirmed yet, has it?

Cojanu is dreadful

It was very late notice and I won't hate on JP's side, but, having seen Conjanu fight a few times, I don't know if I can say that there's been a worse title challenger since I started watching in 2001/2002.

Cojanu hasn't had a title shot before? You don't suppose that might have anything to do with the fact that his best wins are Pucheta and Ed Fountain who he sneaked past on a tie-break, against which he's been kayoed in two by the mighty Donovan Dennis?

Alonzo Butler has been a pro since 2000 and he hasn't had a title shot either, despite having all the qualifications (or so it's beginning to look)

And there's me thinking that Breazeale would be an improvement on the original opponent (the possession of a pair of grande cojones off-setting the superior boxing technique). Instead we get Cojanu who is a marginal improvement on no fight at all .

The worst since I started watching in the 80's.
Buster Douglas Vs Tyson would have made me say the 90's until Buster did the unthinkable at the time!
Who is going to pay to see this fight?
In New Zealand every Parker fight is PPV for us. And the under cards are rubbish every time.
So much for raising Parker's profile in the UK!

Buster Douglas as an unworthy challenger? He was independently ranked about 8 at the time. More a case that were no real worthy challengers.

Owen Beck, Peter Okello, Damon Reed were pretty bad. Think Cojanu is the most undeserving though.

Brazeale when presented with the contract he called for chickens out and wants to fight in September.

Cojanu only one with the cojones turns up in NZ for the fight.

And then guess what?
As soon as the fight is made Wilder finds some dutch courage and says he'll fight May 6th.

Cojanu proves he's got more guts than all any of the above.

It will be SOOOOOOOOOOO funny if Cojanu becomes a world champion

Chances are good that the other guys would accept the fight if they were in Cojanu's spot.

Fury just severely hurt his chance for big fights, Breazeale apparently ran his mouth and stood down...he'll need to wait to be *gifted* another title shot to lose. He's a perennial opponent and deep down he knows it. Wilder talks and talks about wanting to unify. He should have stepped in. If he's as good as he says he is it shouldn't have been a problem. I know the times have changed but George Chuvalo had something like 16 or 17 days notice to fight Muhammad Ali and took it and today we have supposed contenders and title holders that won't fight a kid who is still learning on the job and struggled mightily to beat the Stay Puft Man in his last fight. Boxing can be very frustrating.

It's not like the good ol' days, that's for sure. I think that some boxers are reluctant to fight Parker in New Zealand.
